| How is ADD caused? - There is no reason as to why ADD is caused. All that is known is that ADD is a chemical imbalance within the brain, where sometimes there are too many chemicals and sometimes not enough. Some people believe that ADD is hereditary and is caused by insufficient chromosomes. Diet can affect ADD but is not a cause. What are the characteristics of ADD? - Inattention ~ short attention span Impulsiveness ~ acting and then thinking Overeactivity ~ as it says Insatiability Social difficulties ~ problems with social skills Poor co - ordination ~ accident prone Disorganisation ~ never know what you should be doing Mood variability ~ happy one minute then sad |

WHAT CAN TEACHERS DO TO HELP AD/HDers? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| BEFORE I START THIS SECTION I WILL JUST SAY WHAT EVER TEACHERS ARE CURRENTLY DOING IT ISN'T ANYWHERE NEAR ENOUGH! (UK teachers) - or rather 99% of them. 1) Offer support when the suffer is having difficulties 2) Listen and not presume what the AD/HDer needs 3) Allow the AD/HDer to work at their own pace 4) Find out more info about AD/HD in order to help 5) Give positive praise even if you wanna yell at the AD/HDer! 6) Give positive criticism 7) Understand the AD/HDers reasons, they will be justified (even if they are the only ones who understand their logic!) 8) Don't humiliate by making the AD/HDer an example to the rest of the class/group 9) Be a friend to the AD/HDer not an enemy! (AD/HDers have too many of these!) 10) Treat them as a person not a label. |
