Appendice 4: Nouris
The Bal-Noure, or Eye of the Vulture, created this Discipline to serve their purpose, that is, protect the Higher Egypt from invasion (most of the time, Nubian invasions). This Discipline, while strongly apparented to Protean (as most animal-like Discipline of Egypt), have different features, all around the concept of the Vultures, Hawks or even most Egyptian or Desert bird of prey. It includes, too, powers over the elemental forces of the Desert, and would be the cause of the mythology of the Phœnix.
This Discipline will disappear with the Bloodline in the Great Purge. The famed guardians of Higher Egypt didn't resist the coming of the Wyrm...
* : Eye of the Night Hawk
By combining the power of their Vitae with the famed eyesight of the Hawk, the Vampire can now see in the night as per Auspex, but with greater precision. Note that this power is equivalent in range to the Bastis * power, but while it does cause no fear, it gives the Vampire a supernatural eyesight no other Vampire can match
System: Automatic
While using this power, the pupils of the Vampire turn to large
gold-brown hawk-like pupils. Triple the perception when using this
power, but only when using eyesight, as this power doesn't
affect the other senses. Of course, this power does not work in
complete Darkness.
** : Entombed under the Desert Sand
Like the Protean *** Power, this power enable the Bal-Noure to protect herself under the sands of the desert. Any sand will do, but any other thing will not work. So stone, mud and earth will not welcome the Vampire.
System: 1 Blood Point
Even under desert storms, the Bal-Noure won't be uncovered. She
will, instead, move with the dunes.
*** : Living Symbol
The Bal-Noure can now create her animal-symbol by using her own Blood. This bird of prey is, most of the time the falcon or the vulture. It is considered as a normal extension of the Bal-Noure, and it enables her to use the bird's senses (most of the time, the eyes) and physical power as her own.
System: 2 Blood Point, 1 Turn
This creation needs at least 1 turn to end. The Living Symbol is
a bird of prey that is to be considered a normal (if not lethal)
extention of the Bal-Noure, as her head, or her arm. She can use
only the Auspex and Nouris Disciplines through this Living Symbol
(though it will be included in her body if touching it while using
other powers (like Obfuscate, etc.). Only one Living Symbol can
be created at one time.
Here are the Physical Attributes of the Living Symbol:
Strength: 2
Dexterity: 3
Stamina: 3
Health Levels: OK, -1, -1, -2, -5, Incapacited, Destroyed.
**** : Desert Bird of Prey
By usiong this power, the Vampire can now change into to types
of Bird of Prey. A great White Hawk and a Black Vulture.
System: 3 Turns, 1 Blood Point.
This metamorphosis needs 3 Turns to end. The animal forms are
normal sized and would appear normal if not their immaculate color.
***** : Ride the Desert's Wind
The Bal-Nouris show in this power how much they are attuned
to the Desert. They have the capacity to raise great winds and
thus start a desert storm. But their most important capacity
is to move in this storm as if it didn't exist, as long as they
are in their Bird of Prey form.
Set is said to be the Son of the Desert. Some believe this power
is the reason the Bal-Noure is the favored Bloodline of the
Antediluvian.
System: Willpower, Diff: 6
As long as the Bal-Noure is in desert landscape, or near any
large desert landscape (note that most sites in Egypt but the
Delta can be considered near any desert landscape), she can
create a Desert Storm. The problem is that this power takes
time to create (2 Turns per success) and is centered around
(some would say it follows) the Bal-Noure.
There is two uses of this power.
The first is the local use: A 10-meters/yards zone around the bird will be subject to powerful but localized wind, flowing with biting sand. Anyone subject to this zone will take as much as normal damage as the successes. This power will see its damage decreasing by 1 each turn. for
The second will create a less vicious but less localized
sand-tempest zone, as per the number of successes.
Successes | Base Radius |
---|---|
* | 100 meters/yards |
** | 200 meters/yards |
*** | 1 000 meters/yards |
**** | 2 000 meters/yards |
***** | 10 000 meters/yards |
***** * : Rebirth from the Ashes
This power will be the cause of much mythological discussion.
It enables the Bal-Noure to survive death, and awaken from its
ashes at the same point where it died. But the price is high
indeed...
When a Vampire mastering this power is meets Final Death, she
burns to the ashes, letting undeletable brun marks at the point
she was destroyed. So times after (it can be nights or thousand
years, the Vampire is reborn is a bird of fire (in his Bird of
Prey form).
But even as she awakens, she loses this power, and becomes weaker.
System: Humanity, Diff:8
The Vampire does not necessarily survives: She rolls Humanity,
Difficulty 8. The successes will form her new Humanity. If there is
no successs, then the Vampire is dead. If there is a least one
success, then the Vampire will be reborn later, as if she was in
Torpor (check the table with her new Humanity rating). The lost
Humanity can't be won back by using Maat
or Bardo.
When she is Reborn, she loses most of her might: Roll Willpower,
Difficulty 6. The successes is her new Willpower. Roll each
Physical Attribute with Difficulty 4. The successes is the new
Attribute. Note that zero success means 1 success, and that a
Botch will give a Derangement (Willpower), or a physical
weakness (Physical Flaw) but still will mean 1 success for the
Trait rating.
Last but not least, the Vampire loses every Nouris power of
level equal or greater than 6 (including this power).
Note that this power can be bought back (but only once between
two deaths), and that this power doesn't protect from Diablerie,
which means Final Death anyway.
