| COMMANDERS COMMENTS Another month has come and gone. The Early Bird and Auxiliary Birthday Dinners were both successes. If we could get membership turnout like that for our meetings, it would be colossal. Dee and I were invited to the dining out for the ISU ROTC and were very impressed with the young people about to graduate and to on to service for our country. We have some wonderful men and women that will be taking over the leadership of our military and our country. These arent the ones we read about in the paper but they should be. We have two very significant days to remember in December. The first is the Day of Infamy on December 7th which happens to fall on Sunday this year. As I periodically reminisce about that day, the subsequent events and the years that followed, I think about the impact it had on our lives. How many people that are old enough to remember, recall where they were and what they were doing that day when they got the news. The most important day of the season in the Christian world is December 25, according to our calendar and the birth of Christ. Other religions have their own dates and holy leader, which is their right and should be respected the same as they should respect ours. This is the season for everyone to work toward peace and understanding throughout the world and to pray for peace. The club is planning some events to celebrate the season so come out and get involved. Sarah is trying different things for people to enjoy so its up to you to decide or give her idea a try. Membership is coming in but we still need more if were going to make quota and even more to match last year. If anyone knows a veteran that doesnt belong, bring them in and get them to join. Thanks to Don and John for cooking the Early Bird dinner. A special thanks to Jim Tilley, Stan Eckel, Sarah, Connie Roberts and Jan Anderson for their help with the dinner. Thanks to Don and Paul Madson who fixed a great Veterans Day lunch and to those who helped with the Main Street flags. Dee and I would like to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We ask you to pray for peace and the safe return of our troops to their homes. STEAK DINNER The regular steak dinner will be held on December 6. This will be the only dinner this month so come in and enjoy a great meal. Dont forget, we could always use a few more volunteers to help. Just leave your name at the post after your meal. Ribeye (12oz) $11.00 Sirloin (8oz) $7.00 Shrimp $9.00 Ham $6.00 Fried Chicken $6.00 Salad bar $5.00 Combo (add 4 shrimp to meal) $4.00 Hors d'oeuvre Basket $4.00 Mushrooms, Onion Rings, or Cheeseballs CLUBROOM NEWS Happy holidays from the clubroom!. We have a lot going on in December so get ready. We have a tenderloin dinner on the 12th and in conjunction a clubroom X-mas party. There will be fun, games and prizes. If you were here for the Halloween party, you know how much fun we had and you wont want to miss this. We also need your help. We are asking for donations for the Knoxville Veterans Hospital. The hospital has permanent residents as well as short stay patients; therefore there is a need for many items. Some examples are: new or used jeans and luggage, suspenders, toiletries and puzzle books. For every donation, the clubroom will give you a coupon for 25 cents off any drink. Please help us to help others have a merry Christmas. On the 24th, we will open at noon, have the annual 3-ball tournament and offer $1 domestic pints from 3 until closing at 6 so come relax before the big day. On the 26th, we also open at noon if you need to escape. Well have football on the tube and a couple surprises. Tuesdays in December we will show Xmas movies and have free popcorn. The first movie on Dec 2nd will be Christmas Vacation; come in and laugh with us. |
