| LEGION FAMILY CHRISTMAS PARTY "Oh come, all ye faithful You are all invited to help us celebrate the Christmas Season at the 2nd Annual American Legion Family Christmas Party! The event will be held Saturday, December 27th, from 4 - 8 pm at Post #37. "Haul out the holly We need your help to decorate our clubroom. We are looking to borrow some holiday decorations such as lights, garlands, mistletoe, wreaths, or ornaments to deck our hall. Items may be brought into the Post anytime before Saturday, December 13th when we will be decorating at 1 pm. Please label your items with your name and telephone number so that everything can be returned after the festivities. "Our finest gifts we bring So many are in need during the holiday season and the whole year through, and we are asking everyone to donate a non-perishable food item to the Food Bank of Iowa. Bring in that box of macaroni or that can of yams and help us help those less fortunate. "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Bring in your favorite holiday dish to help us lay our festive potluck buffet. Coffee and punch will be provided, and the bar will be open for business as usual. "Strike the harp and join the chorus Enjoy your favorite holiday carols and join in with Karaoke with Smitty too! "Here comes Santa Claus Jolly old St. Nick will be stopping by to help us with our voluntary gift exchange! Everyone who would like to participate should bring in a $5 gift for the exchange. Women should bring a women's gift and men should bring a men's gift, and please label them accordingly. Parents, please bring in a $5 gift labeled with your child's name so Santa can give a present to all the good boys and girls. We hope you all will join us and "Have yourself a merry little Christmas now!" TOYS FOR TOTS The Legion Riders will have a Toys for Tots box at the Post again this year. While you are doing your Christmas shopping this season, pick up an extra toy or two and put them in the box at the post. Many of us have been blessed over the years. Lets share those blessings with others that may not have quite as much to celebrate with this Christmas. COOKIE FAIR The second annual American Legion family cookie fair will be held on December 6. The doors will open at 9 and stay open as long as cookies remain. We will have a selection of many more kinds of cookies than you have ever seen in one place. For $7 you buy an empty box and then fill the box with as many cookies as will fit. Making the decisions will be difficult but mouth-watering. All of the cookies will be baked and donated by members of the Ames Legion family so they will all be homemade but from many peoples homes. You wont believe how many kinds of Christmas cookies there are in the world. If you would like to make a donation of a few cookies or a few dozen, please have them at the post by Friday night, December 5. Then come back on the 6th and fill a box. We expect a crowd so come early for the best selection. LEGION FAMILY HELPS MARINES Legionnaire Cale Danielson has put a box in the front of the clubroom to collect items to be sent to a Marine unit in Afghanistan. Cale was a member of the unit and would be with them now except for a medical problem. There is a list of items that they need or if you make a cash donation, Cale will make the purchase in your name. Those folks are over there defending our freedom and will be away from home on Christmas. Lets help Cale remember them and make their Christmas a little bit brighter. MEMBERSHIP We are within 100 of making our post target for next year. Lets keep it going. If you havent renewed, now is the time. We have two goals this year, first to make our target by MidWinter Conference and then to finish with more members than we had for 2003. It will be a challenge but we plan to make it. We are now the biggest post in the Sixth District. With your help, we can keep that status. Dont forget, the price of a Paid-Up-For_Life membership will go up Jan 1. This is your last chance before the increase, dont let it slip by. |
