On Fox's hit sci-fi show Dark Angel, Jessica Alba stars as a tough-talking, butt-kicking, evil battling wanna-be-Buffy. But here clowning around with co-star Micheal Weatherly, the 19-year old beauty shows her softer side.

Angel eyes

"To make Jessica's dark eyes really pop, I rimmed her entire eye with gray-black pencil," explains Garret Gervais, a Los Angeles-based makeup artist who created the make up looks for these images. "The contrast makes the whites of her eyes even brighter."

Divine Lips

Being born with impossibly pouty lip like Jessica can be a mixed blessing. "Bright red lipstick just makes them look huge!" she complains. To keep larger lips looking bee-stung, not swollen, stick with scarlet tinted lip gloss, advises Gervais. "The fuller your lips are, the sheerer the red you should use."

Heavenly hair

Coaxing thick, natural waves like Jessica's into a 1950s-style half-updo doesn't require divine intervention-just a blow dryer, a barrette and a squirt or two of strong-hold gel.

Even super-humans need help fighting flyaways. "When humidity makes my hair go crazy, I ues Tancho, a wax stick that really flattens down the frizzies around my hairline," says Jessica.

Silver Lining

Make your eyes sparkle-literally-by drawing just above your upper and lower lashes with a gray-frost eye pencil. "When the light catches it, your eyes will look like they're framed in silver," says makeup artist Gervais.

Hell's angel

Hanging from skyscrapers and decking bad guys twice her size is all in a days work for Dark Angel's Jessica Alba. But in real life, the down-to-earth California native who plays Max a motorcycle-riding cat burglar on the run in twenty-first-century Seattle-doesn't sound like a superwoman. "I'm a big goof," insists the 5' 6'' brunette. Still to prepare for her TV alter ego's Matrix-y martial arts scenes, she plunged into training. "The drill was motor-cycle riding, gymnastics, Kung Fu and weight lifting, three to five hours a day, five days a week, for a year," she recalls. Her strength and focus impressed her co-star, 32-year-old native New Yorker Micheal Weatherly, who most recently appeared as Christina Applegate's ex on NBC's Jesse. "When I first met her on the set, I thought, Here's this poor little girl, but instead she kicked my butt!" he exclaims. This should come as no surprise-at 19, Jessica has already played the leader of a clique in the Drew Barrymore comedy Never Been Kissed , and she will appear in this falls period romance The Sleeping Dictionary. No question about it-this angel's carrer has wings.
