"Familiar Face" by Legend10013

Oh! God, it's her. It can't be, but that face, I would recognize it anywhere "MAX" and she's here in Seattle. I quickly ducked behind a van hoping she wouldn't see me. I had to think, was she looking for me?, did she work for Lydecker?, are the others with her?, too many unknowns.

I had become too complacent with my normal little life. "Max" a person that I thought I would never see again. The old feelings began to surface , the fear, paranoia and worse yet my overwhelming urge to neutralize the problem. She posed a threat to me but I needed more information first.

I remember her all to well, I and others in my squad had under estimated MAX when we first saw her. She looked so fragile and weak that I took pity on her in unarmed training. One moment I had her in a head lock and the next, I had a broken nose and wrist, not that I knew any of this at the time, since I was unconscious for most of it. I awoke to see her standing there in the middle of a pile of bodies, made up of members of my squad.

"..nine..ten.." I took a quick peek to see if Max was still there, she was gone. Thanking all the gods of mankind and some I just made up, I went to a nearby store and got a beer and 10 candy bars. I stood on line at the counter waiting and thinking. What was that thing she was wearing around her neck, I closed my eyes and focused, an image began to form "Jam Pony X-press" a messenger service. It could be real or it could be a front I thought. I paid for my beer, candy and left.

This wasn't the first time that Lydecker had found me but it had been eight year's since I killed his last agent. I remember going through his agent's things and finding my file, it read:

5 guards killed 23 wounded during subject's escape. Orders: Shoot to kill subject.

What the file didn't say was that shortly after escaping I worked my way north west, stealing along the way and occasionally hitchhiking. I met Jim on the road, he stopped and asked where I was headed, I told him north. Jim laughed but it was friendly, "North, huh ... that's pretty big can you narrow it down a little?" he asked. Alaska I said, not wanting to be too specific, he told me to hop in since he was headed back to anchorage anyway. I hesitated for a moment but decided that I had a good chance at escaping, he didn't look like he was up for a run. Jim was slightly overweight even back then, but his smile and loving personality more than made up for his appearance. He was nearly forty then with no attachments but his love for books and his store. He told me about his life during the ride up and I sat engrossed by his zest for life as we ate at dinners and coffee shops. Jim paid for everything the only annoying thing was he kept asking about my family and telling me how worried they all must be. He said I should give them a call, just to let them know I'm safe. Jim eventually stopped after seeing my non response, he started asking about my life and my family. I didn't know what to say, I felt obligated to say something but what, I'm a genetic experiment conducted by our country and my family consist of the eighteen scientist and three nurses who raised me. Once more I just kept silent until he stopped asking.

One night while I was asleep in the car Jim woke me and told me it was all right. I didn't know what he was talking about, he looked at me puzzled "you mean you didn't know you were crying in your sleep?" he asked. "No, no I don't cry. I'm trained not to." I responded defensively. "Oh..I must have head wrong go back to sleep" he said softly. I couldn't go back to sleep, not now, worried what I do in my sleep when I have no control, then I heard Jim mumble to himself "I wonder who this Lydecker is ? his dad?". "Lydecker my father, that monster, I'd sooner kill myself than be his off spring. For the next few days I was worried that he would ask me about Lydecker but he never did. When we finally reached Anchorage I felt like I had made a real friend in Jim even though he was older but he was kind. I got my small sack and was about to leave when Jim asked if I wanted a job and a place to stay, you know until you can get on your feet it's pretty expensive around here he said. I debated all the pros and cons but in the end I decided to stay and work for Jim

Jim adopted me a year later, unofficially that is, actually I think he did that during our ride up to Anchorage. I've had a pretty good life, made friends, even went to school and now it could all end because of one person from my past. I continued to walk to my hotel and worry, not feeling all that hungry or thirsty now.

I was here on vacation, well sort of, actually it was a business trip for Jim but I had more pressing problems than tracking down a out of print "Twenty thousand leagues under the sea." first edition copy. A desk clerk at the hotel I was staying at stopped me "Excuse me Sir, a friend of yours has been waiting for you at the bar." smiled the man. No one knew I was here except Jim but he was back in Anchorage tending the store and I certainly didn't know too many people here.

The bar was a bit crowded, which was good if I needed to get away. I quickly scanned the room and no one seemed armed, I relaxed a little but then I saw Max sitting there surrounded by some men, eating peanuts and watching the news. One of the men got too friendly and now seemed to have developed a limp. I almost ran but I was so tired of running, it was all so unfair I had a life and didn't bother anyone or abuse my abilities. I walked up to her and waited and waited. She eventually looked up at me and smiled, like when a cat is toying with a mouse.

"Hi! there handsome why don't you have a seat?" she invited me. I know I'm stronger than her but she's fast, way faster than me , it would be over in a matter of minutes if I could endure the pain. I asked her what she wanted, just to get this over with. "A beer" she said "..and more peanuts" she ordered the bartender. "What...Oh, you think I'm.." I stammered, she thought I was there to pick her up and she apparently doesn't recognize me.

Then everything froze as she stared straight into my eyes, and light danced in her eyes, like she had just experienced an epiphany she smiled at me again knowingly. "Your Michael Thompson aren't you." she said more as a statement than a question. If I ran now they would be able to track Jim down and then .... that was no way to repay him for his love and kindness to me. "Yes I'm Michael Thompson the one your looking for do whatever you you want with me" I said firmly. She laughed "That's the weakest pickup line I've heard in awhile, even Logan..., well here's your package, please sign here" she said as she slid out a box from her pouch and handed over a sheet of paper to me.

I signed quickly and got my package, threw some money at her and left for my room before she realizes who I am. I could feel her eye's still upon me as I was leaving the room then it just stopped, I turned to look and there she still was looking at the TV, watching that cyber journalist "Eyes Only". I left and made it up to my room, locked the doors and promised myself I'm never coming back to Seattle. I ate my candy bars and drank my beer, I looked at the package, it was from Jim "Happy birthday Michael! Love Dad". "Definitely going to stay home next year" I mumbled to myself.

Familiar Face 2

Micheal had been following the pair for what seemed like forever, what were they up to? At first Micheal thought they were planning to meet up with Max but they seemed to be leading him further and further away from the messenger service. Now what! he thought. they're splitting up...hmmm...are they on to me?..I just hate this kind of thing, I should be at home cooking a nice dinner and watching tv, not skulking around. That girl, the way she moves ...it's like ...where have I seen it before..I'd better follow Alex. Micheal thought. Micheal looked around and noticed that this wasn't on the tourist brochue he got, all these people seemed desperate and hungry. "I remember when I was one of them" he said softly to himself.......Alex just ducked around the corner. Damm I hate when he does that, can't he walk like the norm's, I must be getting too old, now where did that girl get off to. I swore I just saw her......oh! no they've spotted me he say in a flash of clarity. I don't want to hurt Alex or his companion until I find out what they're up to...I'll play along. From the corner of Micheal's eye he could see the girl trying to sneak up on him, he slows down his breathing like they had taught him in Manticore and concentrated his senses...Alex...he could hear his heat beat..the same slow steady rate he remembered...they were trying to corner him...Micheal smiled ...at least his skills are as sharp as ever. Micheal decided to wait, to see what they would do with him when they caught him. If they worked for Lydecker.....they wouldn't be the first people he killed and probrably not the last....Micheal looked down at his hands and remebered the escape...so much blood...he couldn't remember most of it .....just bodies and blood after...and the fading surge of adrenaline.....please not again he wispered to himself.

The Girl had brought Micheal to meet Alex after his "capture". The girl was beautiful but strange, she kept looking at Micheal like he was meat or something, he decided to let it go. Alex was as handsome as ever, in a strange way Micheal was happy to see another member of Manticore but he decided to find out what they were up to first. "Hello, Micheal long time no see." said Alex in almost a friendly manner. The girl seemed nervous or something as they began to talk. "Yes, it has but then again it's nice to see an old "friend" Alex." said Micheal. "Yes, Micheal we are friends aren't we?" asked Alex a bit unsure. "Aheemmm...hi, how about me?" spoke the girl upset. "Oh yes, Alica you remember Micheal don't you." said Alex as a statement. Micheal tried to connect the face and name but just couldn't, maybe too much time had passed but more likely he just didn't notice her from any of the others. "Yeah, I remember you were with the older kids right?" she asked staring at Micheal. Again with the staring what was wrong with her........oh, no she..she...that heat thing....Micheal remembered. Micheal had nearly forgotten about the subjects of X-5 they all had feline recombinat DNA and every season they would be in heat for a day, more or less. Micheal felt relieved, at least she wasn't highly unstable like member of y-2. Micheal didn't have this flaw because he didn't have their particular feline DNA, he had his own and it was worse. Micheal decided to play along "Hi,..Alicia nice seeing you too." said Micheal as Alicia grabbed his hand and started to shake. It took Micheal a few moments to extract his hand back from her's. Alex explained why they were here, something about seeing Max on tv. If they saw her on tv then Lydecker won't be far behind Micheal told them. Micheal decided to hear their story first before coming up with a plan,..run..run..run...Micheal's brain kept screaming at him.

Familiar Face 3

Alex had always been the smart one, Micheal had no ideas he just followed orders even back at Manticore. "Well Alex, I'm a bit at this sorta thing..aa..could you please tell her to stop staring at me it's a bit unnerving". Micheal didn't really care one way or another he just needed a moment to come up with something. "Okay, as I see it from my survelliance of Max.. her identity is still intact, none of her friends seem to know who she really is. My idea is we isolate her and get her to a secluded area. I think we should hire her...you know her messenger service, I have a few contacts in the city and I can arrange that they hire Jam Pony for their delivers." Micheal explained to Alex and Alicia. "As for Lydecker...have either of you seen him recently?...well it doesn't matter I'll assume he's still obssesed with capturing us." said Micheal as a matter of fact. "Give me a number and I'll contact you." Micheal commanded. he waited as Alex told him the number. Micheal decided to leave before they attracted too much attention. Now what am I gonna do Micheal thought to himself...., he continued walking back to his apartment..peeking every so often to make sure he wasn't followed. Micheal saw something..it didn't matter he decided to play it safe. Micheal ducked into an alley and saw a fire escape, he jumped up and climbed into the second floor open window. A man looked up at him from the tv, Micheal just smiled "aa..Building Inspector..everything seems okay" said Micheal as he walked towards the door. "Stop there, you son of a..... I've been calling and calling about the hot water in this hell hole are you gonna get anyone to fix it?" asked the angry tenant. Micheal turned to the tenant and stared right back at him with an intesity that made the tenant duck into his bedroom. Micheal left and ran up the stairs to the roof and started to leap from rooftop to rooftop until he got back to his apartment. Micheal grabbed a chair and started to think, he would have to call Alex soon or they would be suspicious. Micheal did call his friends to hire Jam Pony. After another hour of fruitless thinking he decided to check up on "Max". Micheal got a drink from the fridge, he needed after the day he's had. He started to peer into the eye piece when he noticed something shinning into his window. Micheal used his enhaced vision to see that someone was spying on him, who ever it was was good. "No!..it can't be...first Alex, Alicia and now......." Micheal decided it would be a good idea to stock up on milk and tritophan, but first he would get a keg of beer for himself.

In your sights.

"Are the bombs set? asked the taller of the two males looking through a pair of binoculars." A small wisp of blonde hair fell in front of his eyes, which he brushed back quickly afraid he would miss their target. He hunched his broard shoulders just enough to get a better view of the main building.
"Yeah, but what if he doesn't come back or someone else opens the door?" asks the smaller dark haired male. The man appeared to be in his early twenties or younger.
"Then it's just that person's bad luck." stated the first man still looking through the binoculars.
"Look, I said I would help to kill him only, not some lackey of his." reminded the smaller man. He began to yawn and stretch his wiry frame.
"There are always casualties...cost of war and all." said the blonde giant. Taking his eyes off the binoculars he looked down at the smaller man with his six foot seven frame.
"Isn't that what he used to say?" said the dark haired man as he stopped his stretching long enough to look up at the giant.
"No! I'm nothing like him. Remember that." said the blonde ominously. His glare made the smaller man fall back a little.
"Okay, okay I was just making an observation." apologized the smaller man holding up his hands.
"Where are the others?" asked the giant trying move the conversation to something else.
"There 2 clicks north of here by now." informed the smaller man while holding up his hand to sheild the light from his eyes. He could see north side of the area and several people hiding off to the side of the road. The small man turned back to see the blonde staring at the main compound.
They stood looking at a cluster of buildings and remembering the drills and beatig they endured at the hands of their instructor. One saw the day he had to hold fifty pound stones while runnning in place. The other could still hear the hushed cries at night from one of the other children as guards walked patrol.
A drizzle of rain began to fall as they moved behind a stand of trees for cover.
"Have you ever wondered what it would've been like to grow up in the outside like normal kids?" asked the smaller man looking further back to another building.
"No." came a sharp defintive answer from the larger man.
"Surely you mus.." said the smaller man.
"I told you no. Anyway we are what they made us. So God help them." interrupted the blonde man.
"That's very cold of you almost like.." compared the smaller man moving a bit away from the giant.
"Well, I'm not. If I was you'd have been in that brig instead of wiring the whole place to blow." said the blonde in a calm voice.
"What?! I thought you said we were only to kill him, not everyone here." yelled the smaller man, eyeing the whole area he had just been in.
"Why not? They are all responsible for our pain and suffering...aren't they? Is it less of a crime that one chooses indifference to the suffering of others?" asked the giant with venom in his voice.
"Yes,...no...I don't know..I just know it's wrong to kill those people. They didn't do the stuff that he did to us. Most probably they didn't even know..." conjectured the smaller man grasping something in his jacket pocket.
"Sure, they didn't. Like I'm not going to know that this whole place is going to go up. If you need to have clarity about what we are doing I'd suggest you look in the lab again." said the giant pointing at one of the buildings off to the side.
The images conjured up from the lab brought about a certainty they were doing the right thing. Having seen all those bodies and remains only left on conclusion. It wouldn't stop unless someone made them.
"You can leave if you want. I'll stay here and do it." offered the giant.
"Do you want to die Jason?" asked the smaller man seriously.
"I did and I still do but I just want to take him with me." said Jason as he nearly crushed the binoculars in his right hand.
"I'll stay here with you. Someone has to pray for your soul." said the smaller man.
"Your not a priest anymore Paul remember. You gave it up when I asked you to come here." reminded Jason.
"My soul maybe dammed but your's isn't." stated Paul as he held Jasons elbow.
"No, the only dammed soul is Lydecker's! I'll see him in hell and I'll do it again." said Jason pulling away and moving back away from Paul.
"I hate him too but you seem to hate him more....why?" asked Paul suspicious. He thought he knew but he had to hear it from Jason.
"I rather not talk about it if you don't mind. I have someone to kill." said Jason coldly. He held up the binoculars and turned back to the compound.
"Dammnation can wait. I really want to know what's driving you. It's not like we couldn't have gotten together before this if we had really tried." said Paul walking behind to Jason.
"My wife." answered Jason hesistantly after a few minutes of silence had passed between them.
"Your wife?..You have a wife?..What about her?" asked Paul. He had never thought one of them would actually have been married. He wondered what it would have been like....but, no he was devoted to God or so he had thought until a few days ago.
"She's dead." stated Jason curtly.
"Oh,...let me guess.." said Paul.
"Lydecker...his men...who cares...it's the same." said Jason haltingly as he tried to get the words out as his anger boiled over again.
"This won't bring her back." said Paul. He had given this speech before but it was somehow different. Jason was his brother and his wife was his...a flicker of anger began to grow in him to as he thought about all Lydecker did...they just wanted to be left alone.
"I know but I wanted to be happy just once more." said Jason coldly as he continued to watch the compound.
"It won't make you happy." said Paul.
"It's all a matter of preception anyway isn't it? Can we just wait here in peace and just enjoy the day." asked Jason.
Looking around Paul had never remembered the beauty of this place, just the nightmarish screams of children huddling together for comfort from the "Orge" Lydecker. Even in this rain he coud feel the serenity of the place but also he could feel a taint of evil. A taint coming from one building....the lab. He turned away from the building and prayed for guidance but he got no answer. He decided to sit down and wait it out...maybe the answer would come to him when Lydecker shows.
"I think I see something....." interrupted Jason.

"It still rains"

An overcast sky hovers over a abandoned railyard as nearly a dozen people pile out of three cars with their belonings in tow. Two of figures remain behind as the others rush towards an awaiting train. One of the figure is a small boy who breaks away from the group trying to catch a nearby butterfly. A dark haired woman rushes up behind him with amazing speed and drags him back to the group.

The two remaining figures turned and face one another.

"Logan.." said Sara hesitantly looking at Logan. Sara still felt a bit awarkward wearing a white summer floral print dress but Logan had insisted. He thought that the only desciption they have of her now was that of a dark haired woman in leather riding a bike she might be safer wearing this.

"It's the only way for you to be safe Max." interrupted Logan. He had called in tons of favors and a good portion of his fortune to arrange for this train. As he looked at her he knew it was worth every dime.

"I'm glad you still call me Max." said Sara smiling. "Logan. What if I want something else." she said with uncertainty in her voice.

"Max you've always wanted to have your family with you. Now you have that chance." reminded Logan hoping she would just leave before he gave in to his true feelings.

"You won't be there." said Sara with a sense of pain in her voice.

"I'm not family Max. Just..just a friend." said Logan still unsure how to define their relationship.

"Your so much more." said Sara with certainty in her voice. She knew Logan well enough to know that this was his way of making it easier for her to go. Sara still wanted Logan with her and it was killing her inside. She had come to depend on Logan like no one else in her life. He was her partner, friend and more.

"It's not safe Max..for either of us." warned Logan. He could see that look in her eyes that she was trying to figure a way to convince him to go or a reason she should stay. He couldn't let that happen.

"You could come with me." offered Sara.

"I'm still needed here." countered Logan.

"Your needed elsewhere too." said Sara hoping Logan would relent.

"Someone has to take care of our friends." pointed out Logan as he could see Sara come to the realization he wouldn't give in this time.

"Your right... just try not to save the whole world at once." said Sara as Logan touched her face.

"I won't." replied Logan as he held Sara's hand in his and then slowly let them go.

"I guess I can't take my bike with me huh?" asked Sara as she looked at her old beat up Ninja 650.

"No, but I'll take care of it." reassured Logan.

"Logan.." said Sara.

"Sara it's time to go!" screamed Jondie from the train.

"Logan I..I want to say.." said Sara trying to get the words out.

Logan smiled at her "I know Max and who knows maybe you'll see me on TV?" offered Logan.

I'm sure of it said Sara looking into Logan's eyes or the last time.

"All aboard!" yelled a voice from the train.

"You've gotta go Max. So Long" said Logan before giving Sara a final kiss on her check and hand. Sara turned and ran to the train as Jondie's blonde head disappeared back inside. Logan watched it all as the train began to pull away. He turned and got into the back of his car.

"It's time to go Bling." ordered Logan as the train left.

"Are you sure you want it to end like this Logan." asked Bling concerned.

"No, but it's what's best for her." said Logan with a hint of regret in his voice.

"Alway's a hero to the end" pointed out Bling.

"She was that" said Logan in a soft voice.

"I was speaking about you" clarified Bling.

"I have a better idea. Why don't you drive back. I'll take the bike home" offered Logan.

"I didn't know you could ride a motorcycle." said Bling with a playful tone in his voice.

"I don't but it's worth learning" said Logan as he exited the car and headed for Max's bike.

"Okay, Logan I'll see you at home" smiled Bling as he turned the cat and drove away.

Logan fumbled a little with the helmet before putting on. He mounted the bike and turned to look back a the small fading shape of a train. "Max I won't forget you." said Logan as he turns back and rode off back towards Seattle.

"Logan I love you..." said Sara staring out the window of her car as what her adopted home city blurred past. Max held her hand up against the window as droplets of rain ran down the pane. She turned to see her mother and Tinga and her baby daughter. She realized that she still had a life to lead and who knows maybe in this mixed up crazy world she would see Logan again.

THE END

"Views"

The penthouse seemed quiet as a lone female figure sat nearby the ledge of the window wearing a brown top and blue jeans. She had been sitting in the living room looking lifeless for hour's before that.

"Logan I'm gonna go down and double check on the car. I think Sara's in a funk you might want to talk to her." suggested Bling with a worried look on his face as he studied Sara.

"This has been bad week and tommorow will get worse." said Logan looking back towards the living room and Sara. He had seriously considered getting her professional help but he knew Sara was a survivor.

"It'll only be that way if you let it." prompted Bling putting on his jacket.

"I don't see as I have a choice." stated Logan.

"Life is about choices." remarked Bling walking to the door.

"Aren't you suposed to be checking on the car?" reminded Logan.

"Your right. Someone should look after 'The car'". replied Bling as he turned to look back breifly at both him and Sara.

"I've got a call to make." said Logan as he turned away and headed for the study. Logan activated the scrambbler and made a call.

"Is this Jondie? or is this Jace?" asked Logan upon hearing a female voice at the other end of the line.

"Jondie" answered the voice at the other end.

"How are the others and little Marc doing? That's good. Make sure they don't go anywhere. Are my people there? Good. Have them get you whatever you need and stay out of sight." insisted Logan as Jondie filled him in on everyones status.

"I've got everything arranged. You want to meet us there? Alright. Sara?... She's not doing too well Jondie. Can you look after her when I'm not there? Thank you." continued a grateful Logan. He put down the phone and left the room.

"What did she say?" asked Sara as Logan came back into the living room. Sara had been sitting by the window, looking at nothing in particular. Her mind was elsewhere.

"That was Jondie. She says the others will meet us there. She seemed worried about you." said Logan with a expression to match his statement.

"It was my fault that they came here in the first place. Zack wouldn't have...and mother..." said Sara as the memories started to bring her to the brink of tears again. She had been a wreck for days and she still was, but it was fading ever so slowly.

"I know Max but there is anything that you could've done for him. He choose to do what he did for his own reasons." said Logan. He and Sara had been having this conversation for days now. Sometimes she was okay with it and other times she didn't want to move. It frightend him how fragile she had become but yet he knew the old Max was still there and he felt sure she would be fine. She had to be.

"Yes, but I was that reason." said an emotional Sara as she moved to the couch. A part of her mind was aware that Logan had been trying to cheer her up for the last week by calling her Max again. She did feel a bit better but the memories kept returning to haunt her.

"Many good people have suffered or worse at Lydecker's hands. We can't change the past or we'd be here forever trying to bash ourselves over the head to what was so obvious." rationalized Logan as he sat across from her. He had been having the same guilty feeling as Sara but she didn't need to know about it.

"With all my enhancements it didn't matter." continued Sara looking at her hands and arms. Logan took her hand in his and gave it a reassuring squeeze.

"Like I said Max your just as human as the rest of us." said Logan smiling at her.

"Max, I think you should go into the bedroom and get some sleep." continued Logam.

"I.. I can't sleep." said Sara.

"Come on I need some rest too." said Logan.

"Logan. I got a better idea." said Sara with a spark of life in her that Logan had missed for the last few days.

"What is it?" asked Logan back.

"Can we go to our special place one last time?" asked Sara. She almost felt a sense of relief just saying it.

Logan felt a queasy feeling in the pit of his stomach just thinking about it but he agreed.

"I'll have Bling ..." began Logan.

"No. Let's take the bicycles. I've already done most of the packing for tommorow anyway." insisted Sara. Logan nodded his head and grabbed their jackets as Sara stood for a moment looking at what had been her home.

Logan actually enjoyed biking with Sara. He must have picked it up from Sara and her friends at Jam Pony.

"Come on slow poke!" prodded Sara from the front.

"Couldn't you at least have given me a fifteen minute head star?" asked Logan jokingly.

"You need to lose some weight sitting all day doing those broadcasts of yours. You haven't done a run like this since I got sick that time" said Sara smiling back at him.

"Don't remind me. It was embarassing." said smiling Logan back at her. Sara seemed almost cheerful and his own mood began to change as well. He hoped that it would last.

The base of the needle was within sight prompting Sara to peddle faster. Logan trailed behind and did his best to keep up. Sara decided to stop to give Logan a chance to catch his breath but instead he took the opportunity to get ahead of her.

"Thank's for the head start Max!" said Logan speeding by her. She laughed and got back on her bike. When they arrived she felt a cold hand reach down into her heart taking away most of the warm feeling from moments ago. She turned and looked towards Logan. Sara now knew what was really upseting her.

Logan couldn't believe how tired he was from the biking and the walk up here was certainly no help. He stood for a moment looking at Sara staring over the edge. Logan had often wondered if it was genetics that allowed Sara to stand up here without getting ill or was it in her nature to challenge things that would cripple others with fear.

"Do you remember the frist time I brought you up here?" asked Sara looking back at Logan as a full moon hovered above them. She felt free of all the pain and guilt up here. It had been awhile since she made the trek to the needle.

"How can I forget. My stomach still does back flips but it was worth it." joked Logan as his eyes met Sara's but then she turned abruptly away.

"I wish we could just go back to those days..." remarked Sara as her voice grew distant.

"So do I." said Logan as he moved next to her to stare out at the Seattle.

"Why can't it be this way?" asked Sara softly as she stared down at the flickering city lights.

Logan didn't answer. All he could do was hold Sara in his arms. He could already feel himself falling into the abyss below as the seconds ticked away. What would life be without...? he didn't want to think about it to much.
