Kyria has a bit more of a fantastic background than my previous gals. She was found, yes literally in a basket with a note on it, on the steps of the Church of the Unicorn's main cathedral in the city of Amber. Not thinking it odd to have an abandoned baby dropped off the Church took her in. She was named Kyria by one of the priests.
As she grew up with the other orphans and abandoned childeren, she became more and more unlike them. First there was the fact that she never complained about how hard the menial labor around the Church was. And she was able to get as much done as someone twice her age. And finally she showed a great faith in the teachings of the Church, including some of the more metaphysical ones that most people brush off as myth. By the time she was 10, the priests had descided to begin training her to become clergy and were amazed at how quickly she was able to memorize the information presented to her. Most of them thought of her as just an amazing child prodegy, but some of them looked at her red hair and wondered who her parents might really be...
Until the three Blood Curses were fired off. She was polishing the statue of the Unicorn when she was struck by a blinding migrane that felt like someone had stuck a knife through her skull. She fell to her knees with a scream and doubled over from the pain. Then she felt very lightheaded and weak, and finally was overcome with a wave of nausea and passed out. While she was unconscious she had this vision, of Oberon and the Pattern... When she came to, she found that she had been laid carefully out on one of the pews and covered with blankets. The priests, all of them, were standing a ways away having a heated discussion.
They came to the conclusion that she must be a noble, and sent her off with the senior priests to take the Pattern. That was 10 years ago, and then her new cousins returned from war. She found that once Phelan took up the position of Regent... the Church named her Pope.
Retired? Wha...? Yeah. Retired. I know who's gonna be the character stuck behind to guard Amber, and while that's great for an NPC, that gets kinda old after the first few game sessions.
