Portfolio for LIST 5384
Advanced Writing Pedagogy
TExES Competency 009 (Assessment) The reading specialist understands and applies knowledge of assessment instruments and procedures used to monitor and evaluate student progress in reading and to guide instructional decision making at the levels of early childhood through grade 12.

In lessons 19 and 30 of the six-week curriculum I developed, I used several different types of assessments.  The portfolio assessments I created consisted of daily assessments used for instruction and also a rubric assessment for a developed writing piece.  Both types of assessment (those used to guide instruction and those used to evaluate) are an important part of the classroom to determine if goals and objectives have been met.
TExES Competency 010 (Instructional Methods and Resources) The reading specialist understands and applies knowledge of methods and resources for providing effective literacy instruction that addresses the varied learning needs of all students at the levels of early childhood through grade 12

Throughout my six-week curriculum, I pulled in multiple resources to provide effective literacy instruction.  This included introducing my theme with a segment of Tale Two Cities (Dickens) in lesson 1, displaying the use of dialogue with Whos on First? (Abbot and Costello) in lesson 7, modeling revision strategies with fractured fairy tales in lesson 16, and using art work as writing prompts in lessons 10 and 28.
TExES Competency 013 (Theoretical Foundations and Research-Based Curriculum)  The reading specialist understands and applies knowledge of the theoretical foundations of literacy and of research-based reading/literacy curriculum.

Many of my lessons made use of foundations learned during LIST 5384.  From Sipes &Rosenwarne (2006), I learned the need for many writing opportunities.  This was evidenced in lessons 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 25, and 28.  From Hillocks (2007), I learned steps for teaching the parts of a narrative.  I incorporated these in lessons 3, 6, and 10.
