Belle's Ball Gown: Research

Belle's Ball Gown is a one piece floor length dress of varying shades of gold. The dress has a tight-fitted bodice in dark gold and a full skirt in a lighter shade. The bodice has center front, center back, side front princess, and side back princess seams. It comes to a slight 'V' at the front waistline. The neckline is made of light-gold fabric and 'swags' around Belle's shoulders. There is a decoration of some sort where the two shoulder pieces connect at center front. The skirt has multiple panels and is 'ruched' to create a gathered effect from waist to hem. There are dark gold 'swags' approximately one foot up from the hem of the skirt, connected with decorations similar to that on the bodice. Belle wears dark gold opera-length gloves, and her hair is pulled into a half-bun with a circle of gold. When she lifts her skirts to dance, we see very full and ruffly underpetticoats in white. During the final scene, when Belle and the transformed Beast are depicted in stained glass, she also wears a pointed gold crown.
