The blind on the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus face many challenges. However, many of them are getting ahead despite their circumstances. Many of the visually impaired  have promising careers and their very presence on the Caribbean campus serves to illustrate their determination. However, life is not all peachy and they face many obstacles. This web site is dedicated to the blind on the UWI Mona Campus. (The term blind it must be noted for ease of reference has been used collectively to include the visually challenged as well and is not meant to offend any individual or group) .

            The problems facing the blind on campus are as follows:

• Ignorance by administration regarding treatment of the visually impaired.
• Lack of special consideration for these individuals in campus design and architecture.
• Lack of education about the needs and plight and treatment of visually impaired individuals.
• Lack of volunteers to assist the blind at the Office of Special Students Services
• Overeager individuals ignorantly smother the individualism and independence of that “society does not facilitate people with disabilities”. the visually challenged with unsolicited aid.

Here is one blind professor giving a lecture. Obviously the saying "the blind leading the blind" is misleading.
