23rd September 2001 - Success !!

The day started of with the shock that Dylan and Eric both reported fit for match duty, despite being initially ruled out with long term injuries, and they both even managed to play most of the games without any side effects. LCC then won their first game of the season on Saturday beating Alpena CC 3-1 on penalties after the game ended in a 3-3 tie. After falling behind by two goals early on, we battled back to 2-2 courtesy of a Osama Sarhan header, followed by a Sam Platt penalty. The comeback was marred by a controversial decision that saw Mark Spanier sent off, when it appeared that he was being held on the ground. The referee ruled that Mark used dangerous play when trying to get free. Things were going to be tough especially when Alpena again took the lead late on, but Sam Platt stole a late equalizer sending the game into extra time. When nothing came of that the coaches agreed on a penalty shootout to decide the game. After the first 4 penalties were saved, Eric Cole, Osama Sarhan and Steve Taylor found the net to give LCC a 3-1 win. A full match report will be available online ASAP.

14th September 2001 - Stars lose battle with Calvin

The game started as the last one left off, conceding an early goal. LCC then stepped up their game and tied the contest 1-1, Mark Spanier getting the goal from a Eric Cole cross. Then disaster struck, first TJ Tauron pulled a leg muscle allowing Calvin to go forward without worrying about off-sides scoring to make it 2-1. Then captains Dylan Podleski and Eric Cole both suffered knee injuries. This did some damage to the squad who virtually ran out of eligible substitutes allowing Calvin to score two further goals. Also nearing the end of the match Rick Provencial managed to finish the game, despite severe cramps in his stomach. A full match report will be available when the new edition of the lookout is released.

3rd September 2001 - Structure changes

After the disappointing result at the weekend we have made a number of changes to hopefully increase the organization and fitness of the squad. Steve Taylor will be promoted to a 2nd Assistant Coach, Scott Newman-Bale will continue as assistant coach. working individually with players and working on the tactical side of the game. Jorge Gonzalez will continue as head coach, overlooking the general running of the club. "It is really important to have an extra coach so we can achieve the maximum potential from the few training sessions we can have. Steve will bring that too the squad, however we also hope that the other captains will step up and help out as well."

The first training session after these changes were on Tuesday and the general consensus was that it was a great improvement "hopefully things will get even better when everyone adjusts to the changes and the new confidence we should all get by knowing that we are improving every day!"

1st September 2001 - Stars down in opener

LCC was beaten 5-0 in the opening game of the season against Kellogg's CC. Although the result was disappointing we have a lot of positives and a lot we can work on. Part of the problem was fitness, as Kellogg's have the option of training at least once every day, and as a full varsity side they had 8 scholarship players on their roster. Although the score line was not good, LCC had a number of open chances that they should have got but finishing was not great on the day. The good news is that hopefully Blong Her (International Duty), Seth Knoop (Suspension) and Scott Jettie (Family Leave), should be available for the next fixture against Calvin next week. One problem however is that captain, Dylan Podleski, hurt his knee, and is uncertain of the severity.
