Summary of BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING: Nov. 13, 2002


Place: Parks Department headquarters, Long Beach Time: 7:15 - 8 p.m.
Board members and officers present: Pablo Drobny, Jim Knutson, Buzz Minnich, Fred Nicas, Nancy Sheriff, Richard Ulibarri, Jim Walters.
Board members and officers absent: Shirlee Hitchcock, Fred Nicas and Carolyn ReedOthers attending: (none)
Secretary's report: CORRECTION was made in the Referendum item under Nominations and Elections: "For a valid election" should be replaced by "To amend the Bylaws".

MOTION by Pablo Drobny, seconded by Richard Ulibarri to approve the minutes until the October meeting, approved, 5-0, Minnich not voting.
Treasurer's report: MOTION by Jim Walters, seconded by Nancy Sheriff to approve the report, approved, 6-0.

Committee Business

Projects & fundraising: Chairman and board representative Buzz Minnich.
-- Pet Fair: With Event Chairwoman Carollyn Reed absent, discussion of setting a date for next year's fair was tabled.
-- Ice Dogs: Event organizer Jim Walterss reported that tickets will go on sale Thanksgiving weekend at the website and that order forms will also be available at the park. The team's management will furnish the association with a few posters to advertise the event.

Nominations and elections: Chairman and board representative Pablo Drobny.
-- Referendum: Pablo Drobny said that maaterials for a referendum vote to change our Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation to allow the association to work with the city in other off-leash areas will be put together after the first of the year. (See "Dog Beach" item)

Maintenance & planning: Co-chairmen and board representatives Jim Knutson and Fred Nicas.
-- ü Dog beach: Jim Knutson reporteed that the Marine Commission approved the pilot program for a dog beach at the site of the Haute Dogs events. City Councilman Frank Colona's office is now working to get the California Coastal Commission's approval. Mr. Knutson said that the Parks Department's original target date of Christmas for the Dog Zone will be pushed back a month or two into next year.
-- Lights: Jim Knutson said that the Parrks Department has been asked to advance the timer on the lights at the park to adjust for the shift to Standard Time. Three burned-out light bulbs now need to be replaced as well.
ü Holes: Jim Walters said that he has three buckets of rocks in his back yard that would help fill holes at the park, but that he cannot lift them. Jim Knutson said that he would pick them up.
-- Coke machine: The new drink machine hhas been removed but Jim Knutson said no one knows why. He'll investigate.

Membership: Co-chairwomen and board representatives Carolyn Reed and Shirlee Hitchcock.

Communications & advertising: Chairman and board representatives Jim Walters.
-- Paw Prints: The winter issue has beenn mailed. Efforts to distribute the newsletter to other locales was discussed; the new dog shelter was considered a prime opportunity.
