Summary of BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING: Jan. 9, 2002


Place: Carolyn Reed's home, Long BeachTime: 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Board members and officers present: Pablo Drobny, Shirlee Hitchcock, Jim Knutson, Fred Nicas, Carolyn Reed, Jim Walters.

Secretary's report: Corrections to December minutes: Senior portion of revised membership form will go at the top, not bottom. MOTION to approve the corrected minutes of the December board meeting by Carolyn Reed, seconded by Shirlee Hitchcock, approved 6-0.
Treasurer's report: MOTION to approve corrected report by Jim Walters, seconded by Carolyn Reed, approved, 6-0.

Remarks

The board has accepted the resignation of Gerry Facon from the board. Members decided no to fill the seat at this time.

Committee Business

Projects & fundraising: Chairman and board representative Buzz Minnich.
-- Kabul Zoo: Jim Walters presented a ccollection of checks for this cause to the treasurer. The drive will continue through the end of the month. It was agreed that at the February board meeting, trustees will decide the association's contribution and then submit one check to cover the entire donation.
-- Ice Dogs: Mr. Walters agreed to maill members a letter about the Feb. 9 fundraiser. Ticket orders must be received by Feb. 1. He also has posted a ticket-order form at the association's website. He also agreed to contact the hockey team's business office to secure tickets.
-- Yard sale: Fred Nicas said that the organization made a little over $500 at the December sale at Gerry Facon's house. The unsold, leftover items are at Mr. Walters' home.
-- Parental warning: Pablo Drobny agreeed to give the current warning that is posted on the bulletin boards and at the park entrances a legal review before a reprint is made. Mr. Walters said that the current supply should last into the first of February.

Nominations and elections: Chairman and board representative Pablo Drobny.
-- '02 election: Mr. Drobny will have aan election process schedule for the February board meeting.

Maintenance & planning: Co-chairmen and board representatives Jim Knutson and Fred Nicas.
-- Lighting: Mr. Knutson had nothing neew to report.
-- Drain: Mr. Nicas said that the drainn installed is not what was proposed to the association by the city, but said the upside to it is that the east watering station is now connected to a sewer line. He said that he will do a retrofit to make it more functional for $300 or less.
-- Bag donation: Carolyn Reed said thatt Dr. Sakamoto of the Uptown Animal Hospital will furnish the park with one box of the blue bags for the dispensers per month in exchange for a mention in each issue of the Paw Prints news letter and a thank-you letter for tax purposes. The board welcomed this donation.
-- Walkway: Mr. Nicas has proposed askiing the city to put in a new walkway at the main entrance which will slope so that rainwater will flow west past the elm tree instead of pooling just inside the entrance. The current walkway to the bathroom became obsolete when the new little-dog park was created; a fence now blocks the walkway.

-- Membership: The secretary has 222 meembers on the roll.:

Communications & advertising: Co-chairmen and board representatives Jim Walters and Gerry Facon.
-- Paw Prints: Mr. Walters is seeking ssubmissions for the spring issue. The membership form in the next issue will be for the 2002-03 fiscal year.
-- Bark Board: Mr. Walters has posted tthe latest lineup of city canine classes on the bulletin board and the website.

Next Meetings

Next quarterly members meeting will be Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Bruins Den. Ashley Dobbs will introduce Drs. Melissa Hicks and Allison Hoffman who will speak about communicable canine diseases and eye diseases, respectively.

Next regular board meeting: Wednesday, Feb 7 at Jim Walters' home.
