THE LONG BEACH RECREATION DOG PARK ASSN.
LOGO CONTEST
With the completion of the initial layer of ground cover, many visitors have remarked about the park's different look from just a few years ago. To reflect that, the association's Board of Directors has announced a contest to update our logo as well.
Anyone who uses the park may make a submission, although it would be nice if those entering were members too!
Submissions should be graphic, black print on a white background, a maximum of 8½ by 11 inches. A secondary submission in color may accompany the primary black-and-white submission. Submissions should be unsigned, with a separate index card indicating name, address, phone and e-mail of the artist as well as title of image, if appropriate. There is no limit to the number of submissions by an individual.
When creating image, be mindful that it will appear on a range of items in a variety of sizes. The image should read as well on something as large as a T-shirt as well as it does on something as small as a key chain. The chosen logo will also be printed on bandannas, dog tags, bumper stickers, window decals, etc.
Submissions will be judged by the manner in which they represent the actuality of the park experience and the association's mission statement:
to raise funds needed to maintain and enhance the Long Beach Recreation Dog Park, in which pet dogs can exercise without leash restraint in a clean, healthy and safe environment; and to provide charitable contributions for the care and humane treatment of animals.
The current logo created in 1998, was designed by Joan Shamitz, a former
long-term board member and past president of the association. Ms. Shamitz used
clip art to assemble the image of a dog chasing a butterfly under a tree and
encircled the image in a rope motif. In doing so, she captured the environment
(park), the atmosphere (carefree and fun) and indicated the circumstances
(leash-free but fenced-in).
The board will accept entries postmarked through April 30 at: Recreation Dog Park Association, P.O. Box 8337, Long Beach, CA 90808.
Judging will be from April 1-April 6 and the winning logo will be unveiled at the spring quarterly members meeting, April 27.
The judging panel will be made up of five association members in good standing who use the park at least once a week. Members making submissions are ineligible for the judging panel.
The winner will receive bragging rights, a great entry on their updated resume, and a full assortment of Dog Park items -- both give-away and fund-raising -- with the logo emblazoned upon them as each item become available.
