Earthquakes and How They Work
Earthquakes to most people are the destruction seen. We feel the ground shaking and then major splits or ruptures in the area surrounding us. The shaking that we feel is from waves; two kinds of waves, P and S waves. P waves are faster waves; they come out and hit us with minor shaking. S waves are slower, but they are the waves the really shake the ground and cause the destruction. The waves come from the pressure buildup between two tectonic boundaries that finally split and release a great deal of energy.
