The touristy stuff
A couple of shots from the private beach
near the home where we went for lunch the day before the conference
began. This is the Atlantic Ocean.
Really the water was icky and the weather
foul . . . do you feel better?
In Vila Velha there is a monastary built
on the very top of one of the mountains. It's very small but quite beautiful.
It was built in the 1560s. There was priest who slept every night
with a painting of this one saint and every morning when he woke up the
painting was at the top of the mountain and every night he brought it back
down. It was always at the top in the morning. He saw this as a sign and
built this place. Each rock was dragged up the mountain by hand, no donkeys
and definitely no cranes!

This is the chapel.
This is the view of the bridge that joins Vila Velha and Vitoria.
A fisherman in a cove in Vila Velha. Wouldn't
have even known he was there if we hadn't been shown by our great federal
police guards/tour guides.
