I don't quite have one yet, I will be getting a 1980-83 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. I prefer the square back rather than the fast back attempt of the 77-79 of the same generation. I've always wanted one of these based purely on looks. Most of the cars in my garage are from looks, but I will make it perform. Imagine, if you will, a Forest Green paint scheme with brushed aluminum accents capped by a fresh white top. Some Whitewalls wrapped around Caddy real wire spoke wheels to get this thing rolling just an inch lower to the ground (I prefer my ride a little stiffer). The interior will be a piece of work, and pain in the ass to maintain, but the fresh white leather/cloth upolstery with the forest green threading and piping. Some nice wood accents where needed in the door panel and on the dash to keep it classy. The stereo though is an all out thump machine. No Less than 2- 15" Subs run by 300 watts each in sealed enclosures. Door and dash speakers done up to match so as not to be overpowered by bass. Yeah right! The motor will have to be swapped to move this behemoth. A supercharged 368ci sounds like a good starting point, but don't rule out a Chevy 350 with the vast library of available parts or a 500ci. And just to be clear the ride height will just be a slight drop to fill in the wheel wells and stiffen up the ride, not a lowrider.

That's what I want from mine, but I'm a fiend for specs. For some reason I can't find much on this car so I had to do some research, a lot of research and here is what I've come up with. Some tid bits from forums, BBs, and a couple web sites. If you have any more info that I don't send it to me please I'm trying to help out all the spec heads.

We'll start with some friendly notes, in no particular order.

The De'Ville was built on the GM C-body along with the Fleetwood
First the 368ci then the HT4100 would variably disable some cylinders in an effort to increase fuel economy.
"The 368 is the last use of the 472/500/425 block. 1980 and 1981 used the 368 with V-8-6-4 occurring only in '81. Just unplug the connector on the side of the tranny and you have a constant V-8."
"BEWARE Before replacing head gasket or water pump of the following. This warning is posted ,in all cadillac hood latch area , with time it comes off and there is no way to know about the warning. Good for business!! NOTE: 4.1 engines or any type of engines including Jaguars that engines are made of two different metals such as aluminum and cast iron. The cooling system must be (pelletized) fancy word from dealership to charge $75.00 for a $5.00 item. General motors sells at any dealership this iten for $5.00 at the part department.The tablets comes in a package of two and direction are on the back for engine application. The cadllac 4.1 take 1 tablet into radiator wit a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze. The tablets are not to stop leak but to prevent leaks due to the two metals involve. If for any reason a water pump is replace and new antifreeze is installed a new tablet must be added. failure to do this will cause angine head gasket and manifold gasket to leak and fill engine with water in the oil pan or head gasket problems."
"I bought an '83 Eldorado with a 4100 and a blown head gasket and it cost me over $2500 to replace the motor. I could not find anyone willing to rebuild it. I was told GM recommends these motors should not be rebuilt. What does that tell you?"
- HOW TO "ENTER" DIAGNOSTIC MODE To enter diagnostic mode, proceed as follows:
  1. Turn the ignition "ON".
  2. Depress the "OFF" and "WARMER" buttons on the ECC panel simultaneously and hold until "--" appears. "88" will then be displayed which indicated the beginning of the diagnostic readout.
  3. Trouble codes will be displayed on the digital ECC panel beginning with the lowest numbered code. Note that the MPG panel goes blank when the system is displaying as the diagnostic mode.
- HOW TO "CLEAR" TROUBLE CODES Trouble codes stored in the ECM's memory may be cleared (erased) by entering the diagnostic mode and then depressing the "OFF" and "HI" button simultaneously. Hold until "00" appears. After "00" is displayed the ECM will display "70". Turn the ignition off for at least 10-seconds before re-entering the diagnostic mode.
- HOW TO "EXIT" DIAGNOSTIC MODE To get out of the diagnostic mode, depress any of the ECC "function" keys (Auto, Econ, etc. except Rear Defog) or turn ignition switch off for 10 seconds. Trouble codes are not erased when this is done. The temperature setting will reappear in the display panel.

All dates are supposed to be by model year. Engines are listed with standard engine first, optionals next. The transmission gearing is listed as the standard tranny for that engine(ie 2nd engine , 2nd tranny).
