Community Service Reflection

whoa

The community service I have done this year is far more diverse than last year. Last year the only time I did any community service was when it had to do something with Class office. This year, I have volunteered at community events, at the library, and also things to do with Class events. Sophomore year I have had much more fun doing community service.

One act of community service I did was volunteering at the Eastlake library. I did this during the first break the school had for intercession. During that time I also had cheer practice, so what I did was balance the two. I would come to school at seven in the morning, two hours before cheer practice began, and Id help out by sorting books in the back. Once it was nine in the morning, Id leave and go to cheer practice for about two hours. Once that was done, Id come back to the library and do some more organizing. Some days, when I did not have cheer practice, I would volunteer at the library from seven in the morning until twelve in the afternoon. I enjoyed volunteering at the library because I love reading so being surrounded by books is one of my most favorite environments. It was also fun to work with books by organizing them and seeing all the sorts of books that the library stocked. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

This year I was also involved in community events. Because I joined the Junior Advisory Board, I was given the opportunity to volunteer at the farmers market at Wal-Mart. That was the day right after the AP European History test, so it was very nice to be able to go out into the sunshine and enjoy the rest of the day by helping out the community. What the other JAB members and I did was watch the inflatable jumping houses to make sure that each little kid got his or her turn. We timed them and watched the kids inside to make sure that they were jumping safely and not being too rambunctious. We did this for three hours straight, dealing with parents and little kids. Sometimes it got a little frustrating because the parents would get too pushy and the kids would get a bit bratty, but overall it was enjoyable to do. I also volunteered at Cycle Eastlake for ASB. Since I just joined the ASB, we were told to go out to Cycle Eastlake and help out with the cleaning crew. I spent a few hours there taking down tents and collecting chairs. It was hard work, but also rewarding because many people thanked us for our assistance in cleaning.

Doing community service this year was so much fun because I got to do different things. The library volunteering was so much fun because I got to be with that which I love most, books. Cycle Eastlake was fun to be at, and it was nice to be able to help out by cleaning up. Working with different people there was also another facet of community service to enjoy. Working at the Farmers Market in Wal-Mart was also enjoyable because I got to work with little kids, something I enjoy doing. I was glad to be helping out and actually doing something in the community that benefits others.
