Tamahome is the hero of the story in the book "The Universe of the Four Gods" and is the one who fell in love with Miaka. He's the oldest of five siblings, two younger brothers (Shunkei and Chuei) and two younger sisters(Gyokuran and Yuiren). His mother died when he was twelve years old and his father has recently become ill. His nickname was Obake-chan (monster kid, ghost kid) when he was a kid because of the "oni" character on his forehead. That's why he beats Tasuki up everytime Tasuki calls him that. ^^ Other then his obessession with money, his determination, as well as his compassion for his friends are an asset to the Suzaku Seishi, as well as Miaka.
