Where is the adoption center and what are the hours of operation?

The adoption center, which houses cats and kittens only, is located at 597 W. Jericho Turnpike in Huntington, N.Y. (One mile west of Route 110 on north side of the street.) The hours of operation are: Monday 10 am-5 pm; Tuesday 12:30 pm-8 pm; Wednesday 5:30 pm-8 pm; Thursday 12 pm-8 pm, Friday 12 pm-6 pm; Saturday 11 am-4 pm, and Sunday 12 pm-4 pm.

To inquire about our dogs up for adoption, please call 631-425-1884. We also have a smaller selection of cats for adoption at the Petco Store in East Meadow, N.Y.

Where does Last Hope get their cats and dogs?

All dogs are death-due pound rescues only. Our cats are either death-due pound rescues or are rescued after being abandoned on the street.

How can I insure your animals are disease free?

All of our cats are feline luekemia negative and are fully veterinarian checked. They are given all their required shots and tests, and the cats are given flea protection and de-wormed before adoption. The person adopting receives all the paperwork stating such.

Are the dogs and cats spayed and neutered, and are they friendly?

All of our animals are spayed and neutered and are temperment evaluated before adoption.

What is the adoption fee?

There is a $40 adoption fee for the cats and $60 adoption fee for dogs.

Does Last Hope accept donations?

Last Hope operates soley from private donations and from funds raised from our low cost vacination clinics and varied fund-raising events held throughout the year. All monetary donations are appreciated and can be sent to:

If you would like to donate much needed cat and dog related items like food and litter, they can be dropped off at our adoption center in Huntington. Last Hope accepts all saleable items donated for our flea markets. For more information, leave a message at 631-425-1884.

I need help in rescuing a feral cat colony. How can Last Hope help?

Last Hope can supply humane traps, (on L.I. only) with a $35 refundable deposit for trapping the cats. The cats may then be spayed/neutered and released to the colony if there is a food source; or the cats/kittens can be placed in the Last Hope program onlyif the person rescuing the cats becomes a Last Hope foster parent to the cats.

What is a Last Hope foster parent?

A foster parent is an individual who takes on the responsibility of providing temporary shelter and caring for a designated number of rescued cats or dogs up for adoption in the last Hope program. For more information, leave a message at 631-425-1884.

Last Hope, Inc. is an organization that only handles dog death-due pound and cat colony rescues only. We are, unfortunately, unable to take anyone's home animals. Please see our rescue organizations listed below.

5. For Stray Cats

If the person is willing to feed the cat regularly, he/she needs to spay/neuter the animal, (refer to our low-cost spay/neuter section), test for feline leukemia and get the animals its shots regularly, the person can set up an insulated dog house in their yard.

Dotti at Suffolk ASPCA. She will pick up the animal in Hauppauge and spay/neuter it at the North Shore Animal League. The animal will not be kept overnight to recover from surgery.
