| Nothing out of the ordinary, still living on Jerry rations. Rather hungry at times, getting quite annoyed with myself for being so shiftless and lazy. Put it down to not enough to eat and trying to conserve energy - bags of rumors parcels are on the way for us, but have given up hope of ever seeing any, reserved to myself; It can't last long now, and I can exist on Jerry rations. On Feb. 28 at 3:30 a. m., Red Cross Stores of French and Serbs were raided by three R. C. A. F. personnel from L.7, one of them was a Canadian from Med. Hat. (Jim Gale) Slept in our rom at Bankow, a lad of 19, would never thought it possible of him. Gale was shot through back, bullet coming out region of chest, fairly critical condition, may live if complications do not set in. One of the others were wounded through the thigh, other one got away, untouched, put in bunker. I sometimes wonder at men, hunger perhaps leads men to do things they otherwise wouldn't think of. It means a dreadful rap to them all pay stopped and discharge papers in a none to decent condition. March 2, 1945 Nine cars of parcels arrived for French. French Man of Confidence approached on lending or giving us parcels, flatly refused. Lt/Col (American) on own hook worked it so that we are getting 1/4 parcel a piece tomorrow - O happy day. Dishes to Dream About Steak and eggs Roast potatoes Scalloped potatoes Stuffed marrow Roast Pork, (apple sauce) Fried Onions Baked beans (Mom's Style) Macaroni & cheese Suet pudding Carrot pudding 1/2 hr. Apple pudding Apple pie Lemon pie or tarts March 4, 1945 Received 1/4 parcel, really going down swell - hope we get some in ourselves. March 6 - 16, 1945 I'm afraid I'm neglecting this log keeping. Enough parcels have arrived for a parcel issue of one per week for nine weeks. Germans have cut our rations of bread to 1/6 loaf, and potatoes every other day, rather grim as you really need bread and sputs do make up bulk with parcel. |
