Please spare in mind that Fallen Leaf is trying its best to show you our many new and exciting accessories for our maile! With the beads listed here within the Inventory, those are just the most common that we use. Because we select all our beads carefully for the projects, and by hand, the beads may vary. As with the things that we do place on display here for your enjoyment, have fun exploring and maybe coming up with your own idea for a chainmaile creation. Enjoy to your hearts content!
Types of Metal:
Bright Aluminum (One of Fallen Leaf's fav. metals, Jewelry, Armour): Bright aluminum is clean, shiny and light. There is little to no noticeable black rub off from this material. Aluminum is also 1/3 the weight of steel. In general the regular aluminum is dark gray in color and the bright is a very light metallic color.

Brass (Trim and Inlay, Jewelry, Armour): Brass is a shiny yellow metal that is an alloy of Copper and Zinc. It tarnishes and without care it will turn a dark yellow. Brass can be cleaned with any commercially available brass cleaner, or even as it has been founded, surprisingly tomato sause does the trick as well. Most brass wire you will find is soft, but our brass is 1/2 hard temper which combines strength with workability.

Copper (Trim, Jewelry, Armour): Copper is a reddish colored metal than corrodes quite easily. It starts the color of a shiny new penny and can either darken or turn depending on how it is used. Our copper that we use is 1/2 hard temper and is much stronger than the copper used for electrical wiring.

Galvanized Steel (Fallen Leaf's most common metal, Most Commonly used for making Armour, Jewelry): Galvanized steel is mild steel with a zinc surface layer. The zinc prevents rust even if the metal is scratched, however a powdery white corrosion will appear if it gets wet, but can be taken care of easily if attended to. The metal will turn from a shiny silver to a dull gray over time.

Galvanized Steel: Blue Coated (Jewelry): It's the same case as the Galvanized Steel, except because it has a protective, smooth coating to it, it's color will never dull. The coating also helps prevent the white powder corrosion and adds some extra comfort for those who wish for it. Also with the coating it adds a soft teal affect to the metal, giving it it's own distinct look and appeal.
Bronze (Trim and Inlay, Jewelry, Armour): Bronze is a shiny, dark copper colored metal that is an alloy of copper and tin. It tarnishes and will turn the color of a bronze sculpture or old penny over time. It has slightly more corrosion resistance than brass. Bronze can be cleaned just like Brass.

Stainless Steel (Jewelry, Armour, anything... ): Stainless steel doesn't rust, is strong and clean. Stainless steel is the best balance of material properties and price... ie you get the most bang for your buck! This material makes the strongest armour.

Anodized Titanium (Trim and Inlay, Jewelry): The anodized titanium is electrically anodized. The colors available are rose, gold, bronze, light blue, dark blue, dark purple and green. Anodized titanium colors are muted when compared to anodized aluminum colors. The color can be effected by oils from your skin - the color is restored be washing with soap and to remove the oils

Blackend Stainless Steel (Trim, Armour): The stainless steel rings are chemically processed to turn the surface layer to magnetite. The magnetite is a very dark gray color that is turned into a deep glossy black by our sealant. The sealant used for the stainless rings is a glossy hard coat. It is not oily. The rings will turn from black to dark gray after the sealant wears off. Most rings are a deep rich black, but some rings can be slightly brown in color. Since the sealant wears off and the color lightens with wear, these rings are inferior for jewelry than anodized aluminum. If it's over-bent, the coating could wear thin at the stress point leaving a steel colored spot.

Nickle Silver (Trim, Armour): Nickel Silver is an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc. It is also known as German silver, but is not to be mistaken for actual silver. The color can be described as stainless steel with a gold undertone. This metal is fairly corrosion resistant and does not easily tarnish although it will darken with age. Nickel silver is 80 to 90 ksi in tensile strength, which is similar to brass or galvanized steel. It looks fantastic when paired with brass, bronze, copper or stainless!

Anodized Aluminum (Jewelry, Armour, Costume): Add some color to your maile! The coating is fairly hard but can be scratched with steel. The rings are anodized after they are cut so the ends are anodized as well. We use a hard temper aluminum which is stronger than annealed steel or colored copper. Note that aluminum is 3.4 times lighter than copper - this makes it much cheaper than enameled copper rings.

Sterling Silver (Jewelry): Sterling wire is made from 92.5% silver. A beautiful material but it does tarnish with age. It is easily restored with a chemical silver polish. We use 1/2 hard temper. Because Sterling Silver is pricey, Fallen Leaf does not make regular products out of this metal, we use it only upon request of an order or on very rare occasions.

Extra:
Scales (Armour, Celtic Belly Dancing Belts, etc.): We can also add scales to any armour order upon request. The metal scales that we use are Mild Steel and Brass. It's a good addition for any creativity and if one wishes to hear jingle with their maile. Scales are affordable, sleek, and look sexy!
