About DIGITEL

Digital Telecommunications Phils., Inc. (DIGITEL) has the largest fixed-line network and is the largest provider of telecommunications services to telephone subscribers and prepaid card users in Luzon outside of Metro Manila. Established in 1987, DIGITEL was granted a franchise in 1994 to provide domestic and international telecommunications services throughout the Philippines.

Through 459 regional and local exchanges, DIGITEL telephones are now available in 228 towns and cities throughout Luzon. As of December 31, 1998, DIGITEL had a total of 484,036 lines system-wide.

Its fully-digital telecommunications facilities include a Luzon-wide "backbone" (long distance) transmission system consisting of radio stations and fiber optic cables, a transit exchange with interconnections with other operators in Metro Manila and an international gateway facility (IGF), made up of two IGF switches located in Binalonan, Pangasinan and in Quezon City, which provides instant connectivity to more than 200 international destinations. With DIGITELs participation in the National Digital Transmission Network (NDTN) undertaken by the Telecoms Infrastructure Corp. of the Philippines (TelicPhil), the Luzon-wide "backbone" transmission facility now extends to the Visayas and Mindanao. In addition, the Company owns submarine cable capacities in the Trans-Pacific Cable-5 (TPC-5), the Asia-Pacific Cable Network (APCN), and the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe (SEA-ME-WE) cable systems. It also purchased capacities from the China-United States cable systems and the Guam-Philippines cable systems.

At the retail level, DIGITEL provides local metered service as well as domestic and international long distance services to individual subscribers both for outbound and inbound calls. At the wholesale level, other telephone companies and private enterprises utilize DIGITELs inter-exchange and IGF facilities, in effect becoming customers of the Company. DIGITEL now counts companies in the manufacturing, trading, banking, utilities, hotel and real estate sectors among its corporate subscribers.

To provide customers with optimum reach, DIGITEL has interconnected its network with several national carriers. Additional interconnection agreements are being negotiated by DIGITEL to enable customers to enjoy direct access to all telephone subscribers in the Philippines.

JG Summit Holdings, Inc., one of the largest and most diversified business conglomerates in the Philippines, owns a major stake in DIGITEL. Telia AB of Sweden, a global player in telecommunications, is DIGITELs strategic partner.
