| WHO COULD BUY THIS FARM This is a 600-hectare property with direct access to the Northern Ice Field (Campo de Hielo Norte) located on the other side of the Glacier and Laguna San Rafael area in the middle of the Patagonia (the white area on the picture). Such a place is a well known area visited by many cruises and tourists every year. There are 4.000 square kilometers of glaciers and mountains that create one of the most challenging scenarios for life. These glaciers provide an incredible view and maintain a number of waterfalls, rivers, and lakes that flow into the sea. There are no human settlements in contact with the Ice Fields and the place and its surrounding areas are only visited by researchers and eco tourists willing to understand their importance and beauty. This farm is also located in a valley crossed by a beautiful river. Seventy percent of the property is not mountainous and stretches all the way to the end of the valley. There is a unique wildlife which may include trouts, foxes, rabbits, huemules, pumas, and our national bird, the condor. The huemul is a native deer protected by the law since there is an estimated population of only 2.000. They feel secure and safe in this isolated area. Huemuls and condors are the animals pictured on the Chilean Coat of Arms. The property provides one of the best links to the glaciers. Also, you can study the river system and the lakes connected to it and research on the relationship among climate changes, glaciers, river flows, and lakes. | This is a 2.800 hectare tree farm located on the eastern slope of the Coastal Range (Cordillera de la Costa), only one hour away from the Pan- American highway. This incredible forest is full of wilderness and without any human trace. In addition, it is crossed by a river. The landscape is mountainous, reaching 500 meters of altitude. On nearby properties you can find alerce trees (fitzroya cupresoides) which are among the oldest tree species on Earth (up to 4.000 years old). This farm is then a suitable place for conservation purposes since it is not polluted. This farm is also a dense jungle of evergreen forest. You may find all sort of native trees such as coigue (nothofagus family), tepa, canelo, olivillo, lingue, avellano, tineo, ma�io, ulmo, etc. Biodiversity is then incredible because lower vegetation is dense everywhere. The temperate rainforest is like a giant sponge for humidity. Although it rains regularly troughout the year, the heavy rain season goes from mid April trough August which accumulates approximately 2.000 millimeters per year. It never snows except for a few hours or days at the highest peak. The ocean winds help keep a mild weather as well. Actually, the best service this rainforest can provide is one of maintaining water on the ground, feeding subterranean aquifers, creeks, and rivers. The Pacific Ocean is at about 20 kilometers straight distance, pplenty of forests of the same type. There is no road presently to access the sea. However it may a wonderful opportunity to open trecking trails trough the wilderness to reach the sea. In all, one of the main rainforest assets is definitely WATER. It is actually a reserve of fresh drinkable water, the scarcest resource for humankind future. As the property is mostly encircled by other farms of the same type, water is pure and there is not any other economic activity affecting the area. WHO COULD BUY THIS PROPERTY? 1. Individuals, organizations, or foundations interested in protecting the temperate rainforest. We can provide connections with local environmental organizations to either donate the land for conservation purposes or make conservation agreements. It would be great to join your resources with the experience of local communities willing to defend the environment with minimum resources. 2. Universities interested in setting up research stations. 3. Ecotourism agencies specialized in biodiversity observation, canopy, or trekking. There is a possibility to build a 25-kilometer trail through other properties to reach the Pacific Ocean. 4. Individuals interested in building a healing sanatorium. Someday, it will be understood that there is a healing benefit in touching or walking through trees because the energy to cure is right there. 5. People interested in developing a sustainable use of plants and trees for medical purposes by producing essences and oils out of plants. It is expected to be issued by the Congress a law providing economic incentives to native forest owners to take care of forest areas, whether for conservation purposes or lumber production under selective parameters. Therefore, some of the expenses will be covered. 6. Kyoto Protocol. At the moment, carbon incentives included in the Kyoto Protocol are intended for new tree plantations but once the global warming effects are more alarming, all nations -developed and developing nations- are going to be involved in this negative phenomenon to protect existing rainforests. Therefore, we can expect carbon bond incentives from developed nations in a few years from now. As a result, this property can earn a profit without spending a cent. 7. Water. Besides selling fresh water for drinking purposes, this resource is widely used on the region by salmon and trout hatcheries. Then later the fish is taken to the sea farms. So, it is feasible to develop a hatchery for acuaculture products. The world is eating up wild sea species being this the reason Chile is exporting more than US$ 1.500 million per year in sea products coming form the sea farms. Most of it coming from this area. 8. Investors interested in purchasing a reserve of value. You have the advantage and benefit of having a real estate investment in your portfolio in comparison to volatile shares and financial instruments. Some people buy gold to protect from dollar falling prices but clearly, gold is not productive. On the other hand, this land can be productive and valuable as well. 9. | This is a 1.750 hectare farm located in the District of Lakes near the Argentinean border line and by the Andes mountain range. The Andes range is lower in the southern part of Chile and so the property has a lot of wood: lenga, raul�, and other native species are numerous there. This farm is very similar to the temperate rainforest farm. However, there is more snow and less rain during winter time because it is colder, and summer is warmer than the coastal property. Only a twenty percent of the property was cut down years ago and trees are growing back again.
