lana and dave's spectacular one-year anniversary trip to alaska

day nine

*Lana's Daily Fun Fact*
College Fjord is located in the northern sector of Prince William Sound. Most of the glaciers are named after Ivy League colleges by members of the expedition that discovered them, and we had the opportunity to see Amherst, Bryn Mawr, and Harvard glaciers among others.

For our "convenience", a discretionary hotel and dining charge of $10 per passenger per day was automatically added to our shipboard account. This charge will be shared among the wait staff, stateroom and buffet stewards, gallery and laundry staff, and others. However, it is a discretionary charge and can be removed by contacting Passenger Services. Being the nosy people that we are, we noticed a large Chinese tour group that did not have the charge on their bill. Interesting...

The end is near! Boo hoo. We enjoyed another breakfast on our balcony. We just can't get enough of that fresh Alaskan air. For lunch, we decided to eat at the International Dining Room. We sat with four other people and ordered from a set menu. It was fun listening to other people's stories, but interesting to see how everyone always tried to bring the topic of conversation back their way. One couple's husband was treated for cancer at the USC/Norris Cancer Center and their daughter did research in our pharmacy building! Her name wasn't familiar. What a small world.

We also decided to sit in on the final art auction of the cruise. Lana was hoping to bid on the actual map the Captain used to chart our course, but it ended up going for a couple of thousand (much less than the Homer Simpson I wanted). On the bright side, we each won a raffle prize! It's a lithogram of some Asian artwork, and we'll be receiving it via mail in a couple of weeks. We like free stuff.

We also attended afternoon tea in the Santa Fe Dining Room. We enjoyed the delicious tea, scones, little sandwiches, and mini desserts. We should have done this every day! We spent the rest of the day packing up, drying the tears from our eyes since our vacation was ending, and relaxing in the cabin and enjoying the view from our balcony. To anyone who is interested in an Alaskan cruise, we highly recommend getting a cabin with a balcony; you won't regret it!
