University of Wales, Lampeter |

In 1850 Rowland Williams came to Wales from Oxbridge,
England and brought with him a new game.

|
That game changed the history of Saint Davids University
College (known today as the University of Wales, Lampeter) for good.
The game was rugby. |

Down the years the University rugby team made a reputation for themselves which can best be explained by looking at the two nicknames
that they earned. Both 'Mad Pilgrims' and 'Fighting Parsons' give us some idea
of the style of rugby they played back then, but the history does not
simply end within the club.
Beyond Lampeter a number of our former players have moved on to play international rugby. A recent fellow Parsonian has moved on to represent his adopted nation. Chris Jenkins is the man and Thailand is the country- God help them! |

We are the University of Wales Lampeter, the oldest
rugby football club in Wales, as well as one of the oldest University teams
in the world.
More recently however a new chapter has begun in the Lampeter story with a new 'former members' touring club forming. In the true style of the Barbarians, play is through invitation and all are welcome. Behold, the Old Parsonians. |
