| Chapter 3: Stage Presence Are you ready for the Backstreet Boys! the announcer screamed over the loud speaker. Screams and cries echoed through the sold out Pepsi Arena. This ringing is never going to stop, I thought as I plugged my ears in a futile attempt at blocking out the screams. Just when I thought the screams were diminishing the lights in the arena dimmed and music started and screams tripled. Juliet, Kayla, Kassandra and I turned around and saw the five guys we spent the afternoon with flying over the crowd. They landed on the stage and then paraded around it. The stage, being shaped like a pentagon, had a guy on each side. AJ was on our side. He looked down and waved at us. Oh my god, he just waved at us! Kassandra yelled. Perceptive arent you? I said. Now hush. I want to watch the concert. The first set went by and I had to admit it was good. I was actually really enjoying myself. After the boys changed for their second set, they came back up to talk to the crowd. Whats up Albany! Brian screamed from the other side of the stage. Screams filled the arena. I have never seen so many fine ladies in one place, Nick said, glancing in our direction. Very true, AJ agreed. And there is one group of very fine ladies out there that weve had the pleasure of meeting. Thats us! Kayla screamed over and over. Unfortunately, AJ continued, one of these ladies wasnt exactly impressed by us, he finished as he walked around the stage to our side. Murmurs and little comments passed all over the arena. I head a girl behind us say how could someone not be impressed by the Backstreet Boys. Thats why wed like to take this opportunity to impress her, AJ said walking down the stairs off the stage and right towards me. What are you doing? I exclaimed as he took my hand and pulled me to the stage. Trying to impress you, he answered simply, as if I shouldve known thats what he was doing. I cant believe this is happening, I thought as I was being dragged on stage. Once AJ got me up there the rest of the boys followed suit and stood around me. Im going to be attacked by a mob of angry teeny boppers after this, I thought. Im going to be known as the girl who dissed the Backstreet Boys. Kevin had run off stage and was now coming back wit ha a chair. Have a seat, he said smiling at me. I sat down and looked around me. I could see my sister and her friends smiling at me. I cant believe this was all I could think. Everyone, this is Eve, AJ announce, and this next song is for her. The next thing I know, the music for No One Else Comes Close is playing and there are five gorgeous men serenading me. Not that I mind the five gorgeous men part, but the fact that I was on-stage being referred to as the girl who doesnt like the Backstreet Boys perturbed me. Finally the song ended. AJ grasped my hand and guided me back to my seat. I hope weve impressed you, Eve, he said as he kissed my hand and ran back up on the stage. If I were you I would never, ever wash that hand as long as I live, Kassandra cried, examining my hand. I cant believe they brought you on stage, Kayla exclaimed. That was too cool Eve. I got tons of pictures so you can go brag to everyone that the Backstreet Boys pulled you on stage to try and impress you, Juliet commented. I wish that had been me, Kassandra said. You are so lucky. Yeah, real lucky, I said, still in a daze. An hour or so later the show ended and we headed out of the arena and back to the hotel. That was the best night of my life, Kayla exclaimed. It was definitely interesting, I commented, not knowing just how interesting it would get. |
