one or two half-baked sockeye lying on the deck after a hot summer day of mainly futile trolling. Tom's trolling techniques will all but guarantee a cooler of properly cleaned and dressed sockeye with half the effort.
One of the several products Tom demonstrated was the Silver Horde Katch Kooler that keeps your catch cold without direct contact with ice or water. We are grateful to Tom not only for his fine program, but for the two Salmon University courses that he donated to out upcoming Auction.
Speaking of that: DON'T MISS THE LAKE WASHINGTON CHAPTER'S BIG SUMMER FISHING AUCTION ON THURSDAY, JULY 14th, AT 7PM. The place will be the Mercer Island VFW Hall located just north of I-90 on Mercer Island, across the street from the fabled Roanoke Tavern, at 1836 72nd Ave. SE. Bring your family and friends because we have some fantastic items, headlined by four days and three nights at fabulous Leonard's Landing Resort at Yakutat, Alaska. We have guided trips, member-donated trips, two Salmon University courses, brand-new and used salmon fishing combos, crab traps, boating gear, and much more to be auctioned off. Much thanks to our generous donors, including (as of this writing), Outdoor Emporium, Leonard's Landing Resort, Salmon University, Boater's World, Ted's Sport Center, Three Rivers Marine, Jambo's Sportfishing, Linc's Tackle, the Orvis Company, Mercer Marine, QCove Marketing, Diana Bone of the Willapa Gang, John Barker and other retailers and members whom we will fully acknowledge after the Auction.
Our June meeting was followed by a highly successful weekend outing to the Hood Canal beach of Charlie and Patricia Fahsholtz. The oyster picking was excellent and, despite a modest low tide, members, families and friends managed to dig a good number of clams as well. This was followed by a fire and feast on the beach. Again, we want to express our gratitude to Charlie and Patricia for this outstanding annual event. We seemed to have the only sunny spot on the Canal, with storm clouds bearing in from the north and south.
Our next event after the Auction will be the August 13th annual beach picnic and barbecue at Chuck Wischman's great waterfront place on Mercer Island. Let's hope that we can use the occasion to celebrate a highly successful Auction. You can help that come true by showing up on July 14th -- and getting some great bargains in the process!
