Who we are
Your host at The Lake House is John Devens. John was the Mayor of Valdez during the Exxon-Valdez spill. He grew up in Pennsylvania and has lived in Texas, Vermont, Kansas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He was founder and first president of Prince William Sound Community College and past President of Sterling College in Vermont. He ran for US Congress in 1990 and 1992 nearly defeating the incumbant. He is listed in Who's Who of America, the World, the West, and Education. He is currently the executive director of the
Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council.
The Lake House is managed by John's daughter-in-law Terry Devens. Terry, her husband, and two children live on and farm 400 acres in the Copper Center area.
Our house is also graced with three special animal friends. We have a cat who is restricted from guest rooms, although she accepts each guest as her company. She is a very sociable cat. We also have two dogs who never come into the house.
