Son of the Lord of the Spirit World, Enma Daioh, Koenma's role in the series is basically the reikai tantei's 'manager'. He's seen as a toddler with a blue pacifier firmly placed on his mouth. Although Koenma proved to be very funny in that form, especially during his conversations with Jurju, he looked a lot more pleasant when he shifts into a handsome teenager with brown hair and gold eyes. He does the transformation only outside the palace to avoid being taunted by his subordinates/people. Sadly though, he keeps the pacifier even in this form. Koenma is workaholic and slightly short-tempered. Quite understandable with piles of paper work sitting on his desk all the time. His attitude also shifts from time to time, from a spoiled, childish one to a suprisingly mature young man in numerous instances at the last chapter of the series. One time, he tried to handle the situation during Yusuke's first battle with former spirit detective, Sensui. That was the first and only time throughout the series that he used his power. Though his effort was futile, he made up for it by standing up for Yusuke against his father's decision to eliminate him. |
