Bubbly, cheerful and sometimes klutzy Botan appears as the deity of death, responsible for guiding the spirit of the dead to the other world. She also works as Koenma's messenger to the Reikai detectives.
Having a long light blue hair tied in a high ponytail and dressed in a pink kimono riding on an oar, she was one of the early characters to appear in the series who was tasked to guide Yusuke's spirit to Reikai and eventually be his assistant in his missions. She disguised herself as a student in Yusuke's school so that it would be easy to communicate with him in case a new mission was ordered by Koenma. It was due to her occassional appearances with the black haired bishounen that for a moment, Keiko got jealous. But she proved her good intentions during Yusuke's early days as a spirit detective (the second mission) when she fought the human zombies who were chasing Keiko. She may be considered an assistant to all Reikai tantei, though not really capable of fight demons, Botan usually shows up ( thus subjecting herself to danger ) with the other four. Like in the case of Yusuke's abduction by Kido, Kaito and Yanagi; at the side lines on the first three rounds of the Ankoku Bujutsukai; and other episodes were she tagged along with them. Probably one of her characteristics was being very emotional. Not once did she cried in the entire series. She cried twice over Genkai's death and the other incident was when Yusuke left for Makai. |
