Silver-haired, golden eyed Youko Kurama is a human-fox. He was a well known thief, feared due to his power and prominent crimes in Makai. After incurring a serious injury, he fled to Ningenkai to recover. There he sought shelter in a woman's womb and eventually reborn in a human body. From then on, cold and ruthless Kurama was replaced by the tamed, gentle personality of Suuichi Minamino. His mother Shiori was the major reason of his change. She was seriously ill when Kurama decided to steal the mirror of darkness from Reikai with Hiei and Gouki (Jerry). This incident would lead him to meet Yusuke, the spirit detective. Both as a punishment and due to his desire to repay Yusuke for his help, joined him in his cases as one of the Reikai Tantei. As the story progresses, Kurama's dual personality was very evident. His dashing looks and straight A academics paved the way for green-eyed redhead Kurama to popularity within his school. Apart from that, he was polite, calm and very smart. But that was only the human side of him. During the course of the Ankoku Bujutsukai, Kurama was able to transform back into his youko form in his battle with Uraurashima. Since then he could revert back to Youko Kurama in extremely dangerous instances such as fighting Sensui and Shigure. It was also depicted from time to time in battles, his slyness, uncaring and hard attitude which sometimes could be considered much more extreme than Hiei's antagonistic display. At the last chapter of the series, he was called back to Makai by former accomplice, Yomi, to help the latter fight the war against the other ruling camps ( Raizen and Mukuro ). He trained six of their former Bujutsukai opponents to present to Yomi. He was also able to kill Yomi's right hand man. In the Makai tournament, he was able to defeat Shigure although it wasn't shown who beat him in the next round. In the end, Kurama immediately went back to Ningenkai and work for his stepfather's company. |
