| I haven't really worked too hard on how they initially meet. I haven't decided whether it would be at some clan gathering or they grew up in the same tribe or he rescues her from a wild boar after everyone she knows has died.... All I know is I usually start the story about a year or two after they have been made "mates". Then again, I guess that is to be expected of me because I hate exposition. Which might be why I could never become a real writer. I just want to skip over all the (necessary) explanation and start right in the middle of the story. Hmm...not a bad idea. Anyway, she has not been able to give him children in all the time they've been mated and that means that she is looked down upon by the other women. He doesn't care because he luuurves her forevah!!1!!! She does and she has low self-esteem for it, of course. It also doesn't help that he is the greatest warrior of all time and everyone worships the ground he walks on. Which sort of makes everyone want to ensure he has offspring. He goes off hunting and she is stuck slaving for all the other women out of guilt for not having any children. They eat dinner; he gets the best portions, she's given the worst. Constantly, he is finding other women in his sleeping pallet that he has to toss out of his bed because, remember, he luuuurves her. As she is starving to death, he starts to notice the way she is being treated and puts his foot down. It works for a couple of months, but angers everyone greatly that the one person who doesn't contribute (children) to the tribe gets to have good food. They conspire against her and she is attacked in the forest and nearly raped, because if she is raped, then by tribal law, she is no longer mated with him so in a way, they force him to give her up. Of course he saves her in time and nurses her back to health. They try to poison her and she is dreadfully sick to the point of almost death. He nurses her back to health. Now, he tastes everything she eats before she eats it. All the while, she is trying to encourage him to leave her and find someone else, but he will have none of that because he....Aw hell, you get the point. Anyway, some more miserable stuff happens to her/him and eventually, he throws an ultimatum, threatening to leave the tribe if things don't improve. Things obviously don't improve and they leave. Remember, best warrior ever. So they can get along by themselves. After a few months of wandering and living on their own, there is a horrible blizzard and they are in a cave for protection. By way of Encino Man style, an earthquake or something happens and they're covered, buried, frozen, blah.... |
