Church, Sedgley WILLIAM ELWELL born SEDGLEY, STAFFORDSHIRE Parents JOSEPH ELWELL & MARY BAINES 12th September, 1808 in All Saints, Sedgley, JOSEPH ELWALL married REBECCA ELLWALL both could sign their names in the register. Witnesses:- Jno. Newton and Jane Southal 29th May, 1820 JOSEPH ELWELL widower married MARY BAINES spinster of STAFFORDSHIRE Witnesses:- Joseph Daint and John Newton. Joseph signed the register. CHILDREN:- Ann (1821),Thomas & Daniel, Samuel(1826), Anna Precilla (Cisha) (1828) and William (1834). JOSEPH ELWELL died 11th April, 1846 in GORNAL. ANN MILLS was present at the death. In 1851 Census Joseph is dead and Mary, William and Cislea are living at 97 Hermit Row, Upper Gornal. Just down the road at 94 Hermit Row is living Samuel, wife Elizabeth, 4 year old son Joseph and 1 year old daughter Rachel. Although the enumerator has made Samuel 10 years older I think this is Williams elder brother. Also I think the 1 year old Rachel - neice of William and 2nd cousin to JOHN ELWELL is the Rachel who at the age of 19 married JOSEPH MANIFOLD 34 year old widower 1.6.1868 in the Parish Church of Biddulph, Staffordshire and went on to live and raise a family in Brownedge, Staffordshire.
