I've chosen some of the most common carpet stains and their removal procedures. Instructions are listed in tables. Follow the procedure letter beside the stain that refers to it. Cleaning solutions used in these procedures are found below.

NOTE: Always pretest any spot or stain cleaning procedure and chemicals on a hidden area of carpet for colour bleed or colour loss. Do NOT use these procedures subsequent to or in combination with other procedures. The compound effect of non-compatible cleaning agents could harm your carpets. Call a professional carpet cleaner and tell him what has been attempted so he may take proper action.

Canadian Consumer's Guide to CarpetCarpet Care

To keep your carpet looking new, follow these three simple rules.

  1. Avoid soil accumulation.
Use wipe-off mats at all entrances to keep outside soil from being tracked onto the carpet. You may also want to relocate furniture periodically to allow for even traffic distribution.

  2. Remove spills immediately.
Anything spilled on a carpet should be cleaned up promptly. Almost all spilled materials will stain or discolor the carpet or increase soiling if left unattended.

  3. Vacuum regularly.
The three best ways to clean a carpet are: vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Most soil, even dust is in the form of hard particles. When left in the carpet, these gritty and sharpened particles abrade the pile as effectively as sandpaper. Regular and thorough vacuuming will remove them. Remember - you cannot over-vacuum a carpet!/

Please Note: I do not take responsibility should something unforeseen occur while using these tips. I've tried many of the applications found on these pages, and haven't encountered any difficulties.

Also, I get an awful lot of e-mail requesting help with this or that. If you don't get a reply, it's because I don't have an answer.

I am extremely busy with my job, and my family; I just don't have the time to get back to everyone. Sorry.
