Finances & Saving What to do with all the money you've earned and saved? For starters you can invest it. Think you can't afford to start investing? Go to ShareBuilder to get a free investment account and start long term dollar base investing. Great way to get into the stock market without minimum account requirements. They charge $4 per investment or you can pay a flat rate of $12 a month and invest all you want. You can also set up an IRA (individual retirement account) at ShareBuilder. Another account that might interest you is PayPal. Most ebayers already know about it. You can get a paypal debit card transfer money from your checking or savings to it. It earns interest and if you sign up as paypal preferred for ebay they pay you 1% cashback for purchases. Though you have to have an ebay account, ebay is free to sign up for. This is a good way to make major purchases, instead of using a credit card that zaps you with interest & annual fees. Visit PayPal to set up an account. Thinking about college savings for your children? Here are a few sites with great information about college savings. There are more ways to save for college than you may think. College Savings Guide v College Savings Plan Network v FinAid v Texas Tomorrow Funds Most banks offer christmas savings accounts. The idea is for you to save for christmas. What if you used this to save for christmas and put some of your savings into the account? They usually pay higher interest rates than ordinary savings accounts. About November they require you to withdraw or they send a check to you. Take a small part out for Christmas and put the rest into your savings until you can start another Christmas fund. Just because it's called a christmas savings account doesn't mean that you have to use it entirely for Christmas. Think outside the box. Childrens savings accounts also offer higher interest rates and can be started with very little money. Great place to put all that piggy bank money and a wonderful way to teach children about banking and saving. Home Based Business If you are interested in starting a home business please read the article I wrote Creating a Business Online. It's free with no strings attached. I know there are several books for sell on the subject and sites wanting to charge for this. If you use the information and get wealthy just think of me and send a check with several zeros behind any number 1-9. Children love crafts. It's better than buying a new toy. My mother would do crafts with me almost everyday when I was a little girl. That is one of my favorite childhood memories. Here are a few sites that I like. Decorating My husband says that I'm the queen of making something from nothing. I picked up this trait from my Mother. The secret is looking at everything in a new way. Just because it was onced used for one thing doesn't mean it can't be used for another purpose.
