I love MIDIs! I'd love to learn to sequence them for myself.
Here are some of my favorite MIDIs:
show tunes,
Celtic folk tunes,
Classical pieces,
liturgical music,
songs by artists who are favorites of mine,
and sentimental favorites.
When you click on each one,
your media player should open.

"All I Ask of You" from The Phantom of the Opera Theme from the Angel TV show
Enya's beautiful "Book of Days" The Irish folk-tune "Carrigfergus"
The "Finale" from the Dragonheart movie score Loreena McKennitt's "Mummers' Dance"
"Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera "O Fortuna" from Orff's Carmina Burana, which you may recognize as the theme from the movie Excalibur
Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon;" I always wanted to look like the "Rhiannon"-era Stevie Nicks. Sigh.... I love Andrea Bocelli's voice! Whether singing pop or opera, the man with "the most beautiful voice in the world" is magnificent. Here is the gorgeous song "Sogno." (If you don't think you know his voice, have you seen the Barilla Pasta commercial where the hunk saves a woman's day -- and meal -- with perfect spaghetti? That's Andrea singing!)
One of my favorite Irish tunes, "The Star of the County Down," which was my wedding processional Vivaldi's "Gloria" from his Gloria -- "Gloria in excelsius Deo!"
Tomas de la Victoria's "Ave Maria" -- imagine this being sung by a choir of monks and boy choristers "Cantara" from the late, great Goth duo Dead Can Dance
Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" -- imagine that choir again Praetorious' beautiful Christmas chorale, "Lo! How a Rose E'er Blooming"
More Andrea Bocelli -- "Romanza" One of my favorite Christmas songs, Holst's "In the Bleak Mid-Winter"
Randall Thompson's gorgeous acapella "Alleluia"... that's the entire lyric, but what he did with it! One of my favorite madrigals, "Sing We and Chant It"
Another favorite Christmas tune, "Ding Dong, Merrily on High" Another Victoria motet, this one for Christmas, "O Magnum Mysterium"
The theme from one of my favorite movies, Edward Scissorhands The theme from another favorite Tim Burton movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas
"Shadow of the Moon," by one of my favorite groups, Blackmore's Night, headed by Deep Purple guitarist Richie Blackmore and singer Candice Night A classic song,"With or Without You," from the greatest Irish rock band ever, U2
More Stevie Nicks! "The Edge of Seventeen" "Winter," from the divine Tori Amos
"Endless Night," from the Broadway version of Disney's The Lion King. The show is now on a national tour; if you can see it, you owe yourself a rare treat. "Unchained Melody," one of (if not the) greatest rock love songs
"Loch na Cailli," by the wonderful Irish group Clannad "The Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show." What can I say? Rocky Horror made me what I am today! :)
"By My Side," a lovely song from one of my favorite musicals, Godspell "Mary, Did You Know?" is probably my favorite Christmas song. Kathy Mattea's version is sweetly lovely.
Sting is hands-down my favorite male pop/rock singer. "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" is an especially beautiful song. One of the greatest rock songs, Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." This is a wonderful MIDI. It's hard to hear the "guitar" and remember that it's not a recording of an instrument.
Alanis Morisette writes great songs like "Ironic." However bizarre his personal life may or may not be, Michael Jackson has given us a lot of memorable music over the years. "Thriller" is one of his best, I think.
I am old enough to be an old Deadhead, but I never really had listened to the band until I met my husband. Songs like "Friend of the Devil" make me say with him: "Jerry, we miss you." I was lucky enough to see The Who back in '76, when Keith Moon was still whaling away on the drums. "Behind Blue Eyes" is not only my favorite of their songs, but probably my favorite rock song of all. For a very different version of it, listen to Roger Daltrey singing it with the Irish trad band The Chieftains sometime.
My favorite hymn is "Be Thou My Vision," which is set to the lovely Irish tune "Slane." We played Clannad's Maire Brennan's beautifully simple Gaelic version at our wedding. The Titanic score is a great example of James Horner's work. This MIDI is "Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch."
A great selection from Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman's stirring score for The Last of the Mohicans: the "Main Title Theme" A modern, rather jazzy version of a madrigal, "Pastime with Gode Company," written by, of all people, King Henry VIII.
No list of my favorites could be complete without The Rolling Stones! If they have a signature song, it's probably "Satisfaction." Can't have grown up in the Sixties without counting The Beatles as a favorite! Here is "Let It Be."
One of my favorite Dylan songs is "The Times, They Are a-Changing." This is a rather odd MIDI. I admit, personally, that I try to tune out the strange chime sound. I really wanted one of Cat Stevens' marvelous songs that were used in my #2 favorite movie, Harold and Maude. I couldn't find any of them as MIDIs, so here is another fine song, "Wild World."
In college, in the early '70's, I was a major David Bowie fan. I still enjoy his classics like "Rebel Rebel." Honestly, I did not stop listening to pop music in the '80's! I love the band Evanescence, and "My Immortal" is an incredibly lovely song.
I listen to country sometimes. I appreciate the classic country artists far more now than I did in my younger days. Garth Brooks is a fitting successor to them, I think, and "The Dance" is one of his finer songs. I wish Tracy Chapman got the attention she deserves as an artist. Songs like "Give Me One Reason" are a classic blend of the Blues and folky pop.
Whether you prefer Tricia Yearwood's version from the Con Air soundtrack or the one by Le Ann Rhimes (who was originally slated to do the movie version,) "How Do I Live?" is a beautiful Diane Warren-penned song. I never "got into" Aerosmith, but "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" from Armageddon is a great rock ballad.
Joan Osborne's voice is a powerful thing. Add to that her amazing song-writing, and you have an incredible talent. Her bluesy voice has been compared to Bonnie Raitt's, and, whether singing with the likes of Luciano Pavarotti or jamming on tour with The Dead (the Jerry-less Grateful Dead,) she belts her heart out. "St. Teresa" is an incredible song from her '95 debut album Relish, one of my favorites. I love New Orleans! "Mardi Gras Mambo" is a tribute to its rowdiest time of the year. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
One of my favorite songs to try to sing, "Memory" from Cats. My favorite tenor aria, "Nessun Dorma," from Puccini's Turandot
I can forgive Disney the cutesy trio of singing gargoyles and the happy ending, because the rest of The Hunchback of Notre Dame is so marvelous. Dark for a Disney animated film, it has a wonderful score and songs like Quasimodo's plaintive "Out There." The traditional Irish song "Raglan Road" has been recorded by several pop singers like Van Morrison and Joan Osborne (with The Chieftains.)
The Wizard of Oz is my all-time favorite movie. This is a lovely MIDI, a very nice "piano" version of "Over the Rainbow." This one is for my best friend Tom, who once made a "music video" from tapes of us and set it to the Rembrandts' "I'll Be There For You," aka the Friends theme.
One of my nicknames online is "Roisin Dubh:" "the small black rose." A symbol for Ireland, it is also a famous Irish poem; this is the traditional tune to which it's sung. A musical highlight of the score for Pearl Harbor is its love song, "There You'll Be."
Okay, it's overwrought and pretentious -- and so '80's! -- but I still love Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart." My favorite aria, "Un Bel Di" from Madame Butterfly
A tribute to my favorite city! I LOVE NEW YORK! When I'm wandering around the streets of Manhattan, I catch myself singing "New York, New York." The duet "Con Te Partiro (Time to Say Goodbye)" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman is simply brilliant.

I'm sure that, as I find more MIDIs of songs I love, I'll be adding to this collection. There are several that should be on a page of my favorites, like Sarah MacLachlan's haunting "Angel," but I haven't found the "perfect" MIDI of them yet. Usually I just don't like the sequencing or can only find karaoke. As I said at the top of the page, I'd love to learn how to sequence my own.
Some of the images on this page are from the Medieval Woodcuts Clipart Collection which is part of an amazing site on medieval cookery, Gode Cookery. Visit them here:

Marcel in Germany created the marvelous "Draco" MIDI, as well as MIDIs of the rest of the Dragonheart soundtrack. His site also has other folks' MIDIs of many film scores. Well worth a visit:

The Circle The Crypt The Scriptorium The Menagerie The Portrait Gallery
The Aerie The Guest Chambers The Road to Hibernia The Portal The Art Gallery
