SaGa Frontier is one of the first games of the Romancing SaGa series released for PlayStation in the United States. It's an innovative game where you can choose from seven main characters to play with: four humans, one half-Human/half-Mystic, one Mec, and one Monster. While on your quest, you will encounter other Human, Mystics, Monsters, and Mecs that you can recruit into your party. Sometimes the stories of each character overlaps, but they are still different.

These are the definitions of the acronyms used in SaGa Frontier are as follows:

  • HP = Hit Points
  • LP = Life Points
  • WP = Work Points
  • JP = Magic Points
  • STR = Strength
  • QUI = Quickness
  • INT = Intelligence
  • WIL = Willpower
  • PSY = Psyche
  • VIT = Vitality
  • DEF = Defense

These are the basic stats included for every character. These stats can be leveled up by fighting enemies. You don't gain experience points, rather, your stats randomly go up. For Monsters, you can sometimes absorb the power of the monsters you fight. The bigger monsters you fight, the better your stats will be. For Mec, you can sometimes absorb techs from other Mecs. The techs are random and don't always appear.

All humans can learn sword, gun, martial, and magic spells. Monsters only absorb abilities from other monsters and Mecs only learn techs from other Mecs. Your job is to maximize your parties skills and stats before you fight the respective bosses. There are optional quests you can participate in that will help with skill-building, such as: Arcane or Rune magic, Space or Time magic, Light or Shadow magic, and Realm or Mind magic.

While fighting along, your job is to finish your character's quest and mission so you can beat the game with all seven characters. Once you do that, another mission awaits you...
