OUR
PURPOSE...OUR MISSION...
Every
community in America faces the challenge of providing much needed
services with limited resources. One of the best ways of meeting
this challenge is through volunteerism. The needs of the African
American community are to be met by acting as an advocate for
the community, promoting effective community relations, maximizing
and focusing community resources and services, building network
that represents its voice on issues and providing or facilitating
the mental, social, physical and culture to the African American
community of greater Washington, DC.
The Ladies of Second to None (220)
is a group located in the metropolitan area of Washington, DC
that provides a variety of services to the African American
community. It is the mission of Second to None
to preserve the dignity and culture of a diverse African American
community and to provide services to non-profit organizations
through meaningful use of our skills and knowledge in volunteerism.
Second
to None was founded in the early 1990's as a secondary
family, a family of sistahs that just found the need to give
back to our community. Our dedication started with the advocacy,
education and harm reduction of HIV/AIDS in our community. As
a group witnessing the spread of HIV/AIDS in our community,
we realized action had to be taken to educate others and ourselves.
In present day, we've broaden our dedication by simply serving
those who cannot serve themselves, and those over looked by
society.
Our goal is to have a variety of non-profit organization to
take advantage of our large number of members and sincere dedication
of improvement in our community, race and as a whole, by keeping
all we do second to none.
