Members
Colleen K. Lansdown
, Coordinator of Second
to None (220), has been with 220 since its inception in early
1990’s. Ms. Lansdown, has been involved in the mainstream
of political issues in regards to her Irish heritage and the
advocacy of teen pregnancy prevention. Her initial efforts started
with the Northern Virginia Baptist Associaton, Young People’s
Department as President for two consecutive years. Following
with a membership with the Irish-African American Society, which
took part in the 1999 elections in South Africa. With a background
in marketing Ms. Lansdown has played a key role to 220 in developing
a solid relationship with many grassroot and non-profit organizations
in the metropolitian area of DC.
Toni N. Lindsey, Assistant Coordinator
of the Second to None (220), has kept 220 involved in the epedemic
of AIDS/HIV and the research of Sickle Cell Anemia. Ms. Lindsey
provides support and assistance to persons living with HIV and
AIDS (PWAs). She has help to increase awareness, education and
understanding of AIDS and HIV infection; to combat discrimination
and stigmatisation of (PWAs) and their loved ones; and to encourage
AIDS-related research activities in United States and abroad.
Eboni E. Miller,
Secretary of the Second to None (220), moto is “you’re
never to old for self-improvement”. Poise, confidence
and a positive attitude all come from within. These are the
most important strengths you can possess in which Ms. Miller
incoporates in 220, her daughter and to her students. Ms. Miller
has taught manners and image enhancement to children since 1998.
Knowing that young people have a strong desire to fit in and
be like everyone else. She teaches that everyone is special,
and it's alright to be unique.
Garlene O. Lansdown, Treasurer of
the Second to None (220), knows the aphorism used by the organization
Boarder Babies, “Second Chance for a New Beginning”,
very well. Her second chance was given to her when she was finally
tested for dyslexia, after many myths about her not prevailing
in grade school. She has dedicated herself and life to the issues
concerning childern of all ages, as a teacher and as a mentor.
Ms. Lansdown has proved to herself and others that you can overcome
life hurdles.
ArLita V. Marshall, Chaplin of the
Second to None (220), an advocte for the homeless, Ms. Marshall
organized the 220 Blanket and Care Package Project. The Blanket
Drive began in the winter of 1997 as a project designed to
distribute blankets to the homeless in the Metropolitian area
of DC, which wasn’t popular among the homeless, and
later distributed to local shelters. She then organized the
220 Care Package, which consist of daily care products and
instant food for the homless, which was a great success.
