Unit 9 -Customising Software

Brief

Express DVD Rentals have recently installed a new computer system in their shop. They have been using it for a number of weeks, mostly for word processing letters, posters and storing membership details.

The manager feels that the system could be imporived so that employees are able to carry out their work more efficiently. They arranged interviews with the employees to find out how they were using the software.

Your task will involve customising the software to meet their needs. You will need to test each customisation to see that it meets the user requirements.

Introduction

Applications packages like Microsoft Office are known as generic software. This means that they have a whole range of functionality that might be useful in a customised solution.

This unit will help you learn some basic skills that will help you to adapt applications packages and customise them to suit individuals or situations. You will be assessed through coursework which could be in the form of:

 

Microsoft Word is a word processor developed by Microsoft. It was first released in 1983 under the name Multi-Tool Word for Xenix systems. Commercial versions of Word are licensed as a standalone product or as a component of Microsoft Office, Windows RT or the discontinued Microsoft Works suite. Freeware editions of Word are Microsoft Word Viewer and Office Online, both of which have limited features.
