Born in 1955 in Strijen (Holland) as son of Protestant minister. Lives since 1979 in London.

Used his fathers camera for first photos in 1972 at an open-air concert and was hooked on photographing music straight away. Moved in 1979 to London to be closer to the music he liked (post punk, e.g. Joy Division, Magazine, PIL Ltd. etc.) and started working for the New Musical Express (NME) till 1985. He met many people during this period that he has worked with ever since (U2, Depeche Mode, Captain Beefheart, etc.). Love of music became love of photography.

After 1985 still photographs mainly people working in the arts, for himself and for may magazines world-wide (Rolling Stone, Elle, Esquire, W, Stern etc.) and musicians (CD-covers for U2, R.E.M., John Lee Hooker, Bryan Ferry, Rolling Stones, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode etc.), actors, special projects and has many exhibitions world-wide.

Started making music-videos in 1983 and has made over 60 videos with artists as diverse as Nirvana, Joni Mitchell, Front 242, Henry Rollins, Metallica, Naomi Campbell, Depeche Mode (17!!), Johnny Cash, U2, David Sylvian, Nick Cave etc..

Designed for Depeche Mode their stage set for their world tours in 1993/94 and 1998 as well as doing all their on-stage visuals for these tours too.

Made a short-film for BBC in 1994 on Captain Beefheart (Some YOYO Stuff).

Received a MTV award for the Nirvana video of Heart Shaped Box.

Received in 1994 the Dutch Photography Award (Capi Lux Alblas Prijs).

1998 Worked for the Dutch Prime Minister (Mr. Wim Kok) for his re-election campaign, as well as doing his first advertising jobs for BMW and Tag Heuer.

Published four photography books FAMOUZ in 1989 ALLEGRO in 1991 STAR TRAK in 1996 and 33 STILL LIVES in 1999.
