Welcome to the inaugural writing exercise of the L5G. This exercise was proposed by the Simple Solution, based on an idea by the Time Reaction. This exercise is important because it's where we've started figuring out how we want to go about doing this thing, establishing guidelines for working, and getting comfortable with the whole idea of writing with other people. The exercise is still in progress (on it's second round as we speak) and we're all having a lot of fun with it.

As you read it, please realize that this piece is still in the rough draft stage and that we're still working with it to get it right.

Guidelines for the exercise...

  • Exercise #1: "Burning Bridges"
  • Submitted By: The Simple Solution
  • Genre: Fantasy Adventure
  • Characters: One per writer. Any fantasy type characters you wish. Any race, any breed, anything.
  • Setup: The characters have just crossed a bridge. Time Reaction's has a broken ankle, Instigator's has a cut forehead, Catalyst's is laughing, and Simple Solution's is punching a tree. How did we get here?
  • Batting Order: Catalyst, Instigator, Time Reaction, Simple Solution
  • Rounds: 1 "character vignette" round, at least 1 round per writer after. The character vignette will introduce your character to the other writers, not the other characters. It's so everyone else has an idea of what your character looks, sounds, acts like, etc. The vignette doesn't have to have anything at all to do with the rest of the exercise, just intro the character. It can be done as a simple descriptive paragraph(s) or it can be a little mini-story of it's own.
