Dear Members & Residents : 31 Dec 2010
Another year has gone by – it is time to take a stock of the situation. We need a comprehensive directory of the owners, residents, vehicle population in-house and the pets. Despite periodical reminders, the effort is not gathering momentum. The security inside the campus is also causing concern
It is time to bid adieu to the old 2010. Lots of events -- choking infrastructures, continued recession and floods. Discarding the old and ushering in the fresh is the law of nature -- Come let us all make a new and hope filled tomorrow, together!
New Year is the time to unfold new horizons & realize new dreams, to rediscover the strength & faith within you, to rejoice in simple pleasures & gear up for the new challenges.
Wishing you a truly fulfilling 2011
Sincerely
Team KVAOA
.. that Moorthy, the office assistant at KVAOA commutes more
than 60 kms every day. And it is not to Bombay but to Bengaluru
..that KV is located at Amanikere village in the official
records
.. that on a bright sunny day, the KV used to be easily spotted for
its bright colors, on board from a landing flight, in the bygone era when
HAL was operational. Devanahalli has denied that since
.. that you can view the runway of the airbase from any ninth floor
terrace of KV
.. that the estate and the stables across the Yelahanka kere were
owned by filmstar Mehmood
.. that the speed limit on the bypass is 80 kmph -- should you have
any doubts ask the B-TRAC staff waiting at the interceptor near
the Sobha gate, almost daily 1700 to 1800. However you may do a 100 kmph+ on
the carriageway opposite without risking eyes of the radar
.. that the shortest route to Sharavati is via Yelahanka
Junction cutting through the Rail Wheel factory
.. that the best coffee is still from Coffee Day -- the price of
the powder has not been offended by inflation in the last 15 minutes and has
been steady at Rs 240/= per kilo
.. that the ATMs in Yelahanka did not run out of cash during the
last long Diwali weekend -- however they had been kept locked with O/O/O [out
of order] signage
.. that there was no power shedding on Tuesday -- the staff
responsible for the shut down were on their weekly off
.. that 280-G to Shavajinagara bus does not have a perceptible
klaxon [horn]
.. that the Cauvery water meter recorded the least on the Diwali
day -- kyoonki everybody went to Ganga for the snan
.. that you can drive to Mekhri circle in 13 minutes and to
Majestic in 11 minutes thereafter -- almost any day at 2 a.m
.. that Happy Valley is the nearest picnic spot to KV --
located between Makalidurg RS and Thondebhavi RS, SWR. The
shoulders carry, on the western side, the rail line and on the other, a dismal
road via Katti Subrahmanya to Doddaballapur. Best viewed from the eastern
window of a moving train, the spectacle is at its best after a sumptuous
rainfall and when the Tippagonhally tank is full [this tank is one of
the sources for drinking water]. There is a Guntur Passenger to
Thondebhavi around nine -- you can catch that, by walk that is, at ten
by Rajankunti -- and it returns to YEL at 1600 by the schedule.
Invariably it is late and you may spot that at Allalasandra, just as you are
returning from work. For other modes of transport you need to consult Moorthy
at para one, who commutes on this section every working day by
rail
sudha malhotra
Resources @ Kendriya Vihara :
. Large community hall for
holding functions
• One guest room with two beds
• A smaller hall for parties
• A volley ball/badminton court
• A table tennis room
• Large park with children play area
You can hire halls by the day or by the half day. Other
infrastructure like special illumination, chairs -- are also available, at a
price, of course. Apply to the Administrative Office
How do you reach Kendriya Vihar???
With great difficulty -- in those days.
Now you can take any Volvo towards the International Airport but get down at Kogilu
Cross. Kendriya Vihar is well connected with rest of Bengaluru,
Volvo buses plying from almost every corner of the city. From Majestic
you may wish to take the air-conditioned 402-B or the 402-D. the fare is
competitive compared to the autoricks [and on Sundays capped at Rs 20/=]. Both
go to the New Town and do not touch the old hamlet. You need to get down
at the Police Station which, incidentally, is the asli Yelahanka Circle
When you reach the Police Station, call your friend to ferry you on
the rest of the two kilo-metres. Too bad, practically no public transport would
take a new passenger at the PS. Many prefer to do a Vinoba Bhave and
walk -- Happily this situation stands changed since,
as all the buses plying from the city are made to halt prior to the Police
Station and the public trasport towards D Halli has been further augmented.
Happily again, thanks to the efforts of Madam Kalpana P, the bus stop signage just outside the gate has been
restored lately
The better bet is to choose the Devanahalli buses at the Majestic
-- which are very frequent post BIAL days. They ply to KV and beyond --
the only predicament being, unless you coerce the driver to stop at KV,
you run the risk of being carried up to Venkatala or Bagaluru. Though a down
slope from there, the distance is one kM plus
The apartment complex is located at about the midpoint between
Vidan Soudha and the new International Airport at Devanahalli. The International
Airport of Bangalore is about 18 kMs from Kendriya Vihar and the City
Railway Station is 15 KM -- Cantt station is slightly nearer and on many
occasions quicker
Kendriya Vihar is spread over an area of 8
acres plus and consists of eight 9 story blocks. There are a total of 603
apartments. There are four types of dwelling units (one to three and one half
bedrooms). More than fifty per cent of the total area is kept free for parking
and arboriculture. The park with ample play area for the children occupies
approximately 5000 square meters. The complex itself is surrounded by open
spaces on three sides as of now
Kendriya Vihar is a multi cultural vibrant
community of nearly 2000 people, young and old, working and retired [retrenched
and not re-trainable nor re-employable]. An ideal haven for time pass --
there are lakes and more lakes all around. A morning scene with all the
children of the campus waiting for the take off is a spectacle beyond words. You
will be happy to be alive to witness the same
The amenities that the complex offers are:
• Large community
hall for holding functions
• One guest room
with two beds
• A smaller hall
for parties
• A volley
ball/badminton court
• A table tennis
room
• Large park with
children play area
• Walking/jogging
tracks of 700 m, 400 m and 200 m
• Shops for daily
needs
• Post office with
banking, speed post and bill collection facilities [the Experimental Post Office is
since closed, due to inadequate revenue generation -- nonetheless the HPO at
Yelahanka delivers good and cheerful service, as of this writing]
• Medical room
(both allopathic and homeopathic doctors)
• 24-hours piped
running water
• 24/7 maintenance
call facility
• Direct approach
to NH-7
• Convenience and
safety of a gated township
• Public Bus
connecting to the city centre, main bus terminus and railway station
The list of shops include Grocery, Milk, Vegetable,
Stationery and Photocopying, Chemist, Snacks and Clothes Pressing. In a way the
complex is self-contained for day to day needs.
Infrastructure Facilities: The
complex has nearly 3 KM of well lighted roads. The power supply is provided to
the complex by BESCOM. The complex has its own distribution transformers.
Stand-by power is supplied to the common facilities (lifts, pumps, road and
corridor lighting etc.) through a 300 KVA Diesel Generator. Kendriya Vihar
apartments get 24 hours piped water, thanks to Kaveri and supplemented by nine
bore-wells. The water from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is used for
arboriculture purposes. The telephone and cable services are provided through
pre-wired ducts to all apartments. Garbage is collected by gravity and trailer
from the ground floor. Facilities such as the DG room and the STP are manned
round the clock
Management: The affairs of the complex
are managed by the Kendriya Vihar Apartment Owners’ Association
(KVAOA). All the apartment owners are the members of the Association. Specific
works such as conservancy, arboriculture, electrical, water supply system,
lifts maintenance and security services are outsourced.
Security : The complex is a gated
community and is secured with a compound wall on all sides. There is a guard
room for watch and ward at the entrance. The entry to the complex is restricted
through a single main gate and vehicular traffic is regulated by drop gates.
There is a separate visitors’ parking lot and bus pick-up bay. Security
personnel are on duty round the clock.
Where on Earth is Kendriya Vihara?
Kendriya Vihar is right on
the National Highway No.7 (NH-7) on its sixteenth milestone [from Viidan Soudha]
and thus has an excellent all weather approach road. The Bangalore Railway
Station and the Majestic Bus Stand are about 15 KM from the complex and so is
the new International Airport at Devanahalli. The following bus routes connect Kendriya
Vihar to Bangalore:
284G, 282, 283, 289, 281, 297, 298, 299 and all KSRTC buses
towards Chikbalapur
Auto rickshaw service is available right from the gate to travel
to Yelahanka new and old town bus stands from where more buses are available.
Train service is available in the directions of Delhi, Mumbai
and Hyderabad from the Yelahanka Jn. Railway Station which is hardly a
kilometer south, from the complex.
