4: Survival Game ~*~*~*~*~ The first week of school was passing away quickly. It was Friday this day, and there would be a Quidditch tryout tomorrow. As Harry had thought, Katie Bell had been made a Gryffindor Captain. He told her about Dong Eun and she was smiling. “Let’s just see about him tomorrow!” she replied at him. In the other hand, Hermione was getting more and more depressed. Yura proved it right to have the nickname of a ‘genius’ just as Dong Eun had told Harry, and the bushy haired girl wasn’t happy about it at all. By this time, Slytherin already had over 500 points and most of the credit went to the one and only mudblood sorted into the snake pit. The Slytherins were beginning to treat her a little better than before. All around this time, Harry realized that Malfoy would be almost in the same classes with him but Divination and sighed. He didn’t know what to feel. The blond had stopped sneering at him every time he could, and instead started talking civilly to Yura; the two had almost been inseparable this week. Malfoy had stopped going around with Crabbe and Goyle for they weren’t able to enter the NEWTs class he was entering and Pansy’s company just didn’t sound too appealing for him. Harry didn’t know how to say it, but he somehow missed the moments where Malfoy and he sneered and threw crude remarks at each other. He also kept on dreaming about him, or rather, about the two balls of darkness. Each dream made him surer that the person in the warmer ball was Malfoy. Malfoy was too quiet now for his liking. He felt somehow ignored. He wanted the blonde’s attention back. And that was why Harry went up to the blond, hitting him on the shoulder as he walked passed Malfoy as he was talking to Yura. “Oops, sorry,” Harry said sarcastically, eyeing the silver eyed boy with fake disgust in his green eyes, “I didn’t mean to touch the Ice Prince of Slytherin.” Harry’s eyes gleamed as he eyed Yura, “a new girlfriend, Malfoy?” Malfoy turned to glare at the raven-haired boy and hopefully to scowl a nasty reply at him as well, but no. All he said was, “Sod off, Potter.” The blonde didn’t even call him ‘Potty’ anymore. Harry’s eyes fell in disappointment as he heard Ron grinning behind him and Hermione tsked. Yura realized who the people in front of Malfoy were now and smiled a rather cheerful smile. “Hello, Dong Eun,” she said as Dong Eun returned her with a ‘hi’. Yura went to look at Harry at the eye and smiled not her trademark smile but was rather happily. “Hello, Harry!” At this, Hermione shot Harry one of her most piercing look, not believing her ears. Malfoy was raising his eyebrow at the Asian girl. Unconsciously to Harry, Dong Eun was looking at him in shock as well. “Hi, Yura,” Harry gave out a light smile. Hermione was about to make an outburst on Harry about making friends with a Slytherin AND her rival nonetheless when, unexpected to them, Dong Eun grabbed Yura’s arm and dragged her away a bit before glaring at the shorter girl. “Omae! NANI GA SURUNDA?? (You! What did you do??)” His voice was so loud making everyone turn at them. Yura
only waved her hand nonchalantly as she glared back at him. “Betsu ni. Tada
watashitachi no shigoto
ga hajimemashita dake de- (Nothing. Just wanting to start our project-)” “’Kedo Hayai sugi darou ga?? (But it’s too quick!!)” Dong Eun shouted from the top of his lungs. Yura’s eyes squinted. “Hayai sugi?? (Too quick?)” she began to poke the tanned Asian boy’s chest with her finger. “Hayai sugi?? (Too quick??)” she repeated, “Watashitachi wa tada ichi nen no jikan ga aru youni! Ima hajimetekunai nara osoi kamo! (We only have one year! If we don’t start now it might be too late!)” Dong Eun
wanted to burst out into a pathetic laughter. “Ichi
nen? Ni nen da!! (One
year? It’s two years!)" Yura
sighed. "Dong Eun-kun yo," she said carefully, “Ima teki wa ooki no
koto ga kangaete no desu wa, ano Kurayami no hito te, (Now the enemy is planning
on something big, that dark person)” Yura shifted around her feet before
glancing at the other male, “Sou, watachitachi wa ima go nin ga aru nashite
keredo, (We might have 5 people already)” her brown eyes glanced at Harry’s
crowd, “kare wa yami e iku nara watashitachi kate no kanosee wa…nai. (If he
goes to join the Dark, our chance of winning is…none.)” The
two fell silent suddenly, Harry looking at them confusedly, their foreign
language spinning in his head. He had once forgotten that the two were brought
up in Asian’s custom and could perfectly talk out loud without anyone
understanding anything. Ron was gaping at the two of them while Hermione
couldn’t help but showed a bit of interest out of the corner of her eyes. The
two didn’t speak anything before Dong Eun sighed and nodded. A thin smile
graced Yura’s face before the two went back to the crowd. “Sorry for the
sudden outburst,” Dong Eun said sheepishly, “it’s just…” “Family
matter,” snapped Yura, looking calm under Malfoy and Harry’s hard stares,
“just Dong Eun’s foster family.” Harry
and Ron nodded in unison. “I see,” said Harry, while Ron was looking
interested. “What language was that?” the red-haired asked. “Japanese,”
retorted Hermione before giving a glare at Yura, who only took it with a calm
trademark smile. They stayed there in silence for a while before Malfoy gave out
a cough. “Come on, we’ve got double Charm,” he stated and pulled Yura away
before leaving gracefully. That reminded the Gryffindor quartet that they also
needed to go to their classes and dismissed each other. ~*~*~*~*~ It
was after lunch, and Harry, Ron and Hermione was sitting on their seats in the
Defense Against the Dark Art’s class, Malfoy sitting quite close from them
with the other students, a mix of Hufflepuffs, Gryffindors, Ravenclaws and
Slytherins. Harry’s
inside was swelling in hope. He had always liked this class and hoped that there
would be a better teacher this year; Umbridge was an awful teacher last year. A
quick look around told him that the other people were excited too. Not
anyone realized that two students who were supposed to be in that class as well
were missing. As
soon as the bell rung, the old woman Harry saw during the Welcoming Feast
entered the classroom. She smiled at everyone before writing her name on the
board. Professor Brianna S Wetzel. “Good
afternoon, everyone,” she greeted as the students chorused ‘Good afternoon
Professor Wetzel!’ back. The old woman smiled. “Put all your books and
belongings behind, boys and girls, and followed me! Do take your wands though,
we’re going to do some field work!” All
the students stood up from their seats and grinned. Harry couldn’t help but
feeling a little bit jumpy and curious as the crowd followed the Professor out
to the field. After reaching a very empty space surrounded some thick trees,
they stopped. Professor
Wetzel turned at her students and smiled. “I’ve hid some nasty looking
beasts and time-controlled spells in this space. All of you are to go in there
and…have fun! Try to fight as many spells and beast there. Think of it as a
Survival game,” the old woman explained. Harry
and Ron were looking at each other; feeling more excited than ever while
Hermione raised her hand. “Yes, ms…?” the new teacher called. “Ms.
Granger, Professor Wetzel,” Hermione introduced herself before getting into
her point, “what if we are not good enough to handle the beast and…get
ourselves hurt?” Harry
and Ron scowled. Hermione had always been the worried one. The
old woman only smiled. “Don’t worry about that, Ms Granger. Here, all of you
are to drink this potion before going,” the woman swayed her wand and a potion
appeared inside everyone’s hand, “they’ll protect you from any curses,
spells and attacks, but only once. Once you’re hit, you will be out of the
game for your safety.” She smiled at Hermione, who smiled back, feeling
relieved that this was going to be a bloodless game. “All of you drink the
potion now!” It
took them no time to put the potions into their mouths. The Professor smiled and
swayed her wand again before all the empty veils disappeared. The students
entered the field and took out their wands. “Ready…?”
All of them nodded eagerly. “Go!!” In
all sudden, many types of spells and beasts filled around the space, hitting
whomever it had first seen. There were Boggarts, Hinpunks, Banshees, Mummies,
Hippogriffs, and basically many other beasts. Harry felt like once again he was
standing in the maze of the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament, only that
this time, there was no maze. “Longbottom,
you’re hit!” They could hear the old woman’s voice, “Out of the game
please!” she swayed her wand and levitated Neville away to a safe spot next to
her. “Crabbe, Goyle, you’re
hit! Out of the game!!” Soon
enough, many other people were hit. Harry couldn’t be any more than grateful;
it was hard dodging the spells and the beasts where there were too many people
around. In all sudden, a spider was turning out of the corner and Ron froze,
letting himself being hit by a stunning spell that flew across the field. “Weasley,
you’re hit! Out!!” Zabini and Nott were laughing at him, not noticing the
pixies coming at their direction and were hit. “Zabini! Nott! You’re hit!
Out of the game!!” As
time passed by, more students were hit, and that left little people on the
field. In fact, it was only Harry, Hermione, some Ravenclaws and Malfoy. The
monster crowded around and soon, the Ravenclaws were hit and out of the game as
well. Hermione was facing a Troll when a Boggart crept up behind her and turned
into Professor McGonagall, telling her that she failed all her NEWTs. Hermione
froze, and a blue spell hit her. “Granger,
you’re hit! Out of the game please!!” Hermione
sulked as she was levitated out, but the Professor only gave her a smile.
“That was very good of you, you were the third last to be hit, and you’re a
girl! 15 Points for Gryffindor!” The
bushy-haired brunet smiled and turned to watch the remaining survivors. There
were only two people left on the field. Harry
and Draco Malfoy. Harry,
accompanied by his quick seeker reflexes and all those years dueling with the
Dark Lord, was quick to jump and attack when he sensed a threat to himself, but
Malfoy was so surprisingly fast. He dodged all the spells that were targeted to
him and hexed almost every beast coming his way. Time
passed, and the two were still not hit yet. The students were starting to gape
at them. And that was when Hermione noticed one thing. Harry
looked so ideal with Malfoy. Harry,
being slightly tanned and having dark raven haired hair, was quite a contrary to
Malfoy, who was pale and having silver blonde hair falling onto his face. The
two were so opposite of each other, but when they were moving quickly and
accidentally colliding into each other at times, they looked… Perfect. Just
right for each other. Hermione
blinked before laughing at herself. Malfoy and Harry? Fitted each other?? Yeah,
riiiight. In
all sudden, the spells and the beasts stopped coming. Harry and Malfoy
straightened themselves, thinking that the game was over when suddenly the blond
was shadowed by a very large beast. Malfoy turned around with slight fear in his
gray eyes. A
full-grown Blast-Ended Skrewt. Malfoy
dodged as it aimed its fire to him, missing him by a mere inch. Unluckily for
him, he lost his grip to his wand during his mere dodge. And now the Blast-Ended
Skrewt was looking at him like he was a free food. Many
students in the safe zone were crying out in horror as the Skrewt moved his
sharp fangs real close to the blond. Harry couldn’t do anything; he was too
far from Malfoy that time. Professor Wetzel couldn’t levitate him; Malfoy was
already surrounded by the huge black beast. Harry
closed his eyes in terror when the beast opened his mouth, ready to bite the
Slytherin Ice Prince. Malfoy looked at the approaching beast with scared eyes.
He thought this game was save. He’d never thought of using a power he’d
found a little while before the summer holiday was over. ‘Blast that
thinking’, Malfoy thought as the monster was about to bite his arm. The blonde
opened his mouth and inhaled, ready to scream a word that was formed in his mind
that very moment. NOIR!!! A
huge ball of darkness formed from the middle of Malfoy’s palm and hit the
beast hard; making the part where it collided with the skin became a void. The
Blast Ended Skrewt roared before the whole ball widened and swallowed it to
nothingness. Harry,
Hermione and the whole students were left blinking at the sight of vanishing
Blast-Ended Skrewt. As Malfoy stood there all sweaty before walking to get his
wand, Harry could only think of one thing: his own power to form an energy ball. Only
that Harry’s ball was light. Malfoy’s
ball was dark. Why
not make friends with the darkness you can approach? Harry’s
head stung. His thinking was cut as he heard Professor Wetzel levitating both of
them to her side, smiling. “Unfortunately, out period is finished and you all
need to go to your next lessons. That was a great performance, Mr. Potter, and
Mr. Malfoy, that was a perfect demonstration of a Speed Charm. 50 points for
Gryffindor and Slytherin each, oh, I am so happy to have brilliant students!
Now, go back to the class, get your things and leave!” Harry
shrugged and joined Ron and Hermione, who were giving him thumb ups and praised
his reflexes. They didn’t see the Professor walked to the Slytherin blond and
whispered onto his ears. “That
was a perfect demonstration of Dark elemental power.” Malfoy’s
eyes widened as the old woman smiled…somehow a very similar smile and walked
to the Castle. He could only shrug and sighed deeply. Someone
had just found out about his power. ~*~ Sitting
in the Astronomy Tower, two figures threw their gazes from the patch of field
below and smiled at each other before the female figure lifted her Imperious
Charm. “He had awaken, hadn’t he? And that power of his was well,” the
male figure stated, a serious look plastered on his face. The
female nodded as she cast a strand of unruly black fringe away from her warm
brown eyes. “Interesting, isn’t it?” The male eyed his partner carefully
before nodding. The female smiled a very similar smile as she looked back down
at the blonde. “Draco…” ~*~ Malfoy
went back down to Slytherin’s dormitory as fast as he could, flopping himself
on his bed as soon as he reached his private prefect’s room. As much as the
magic the blonde had demonstrated earlier on was powerful, it was even more
tiring. Aside from the dark energy ball, the Ice Prince had also found out
during his own time in summer holiday that he could do many hexes and jinxes
wandless very easily. The blonde kept on practicing to make them perfect; after
all, Lucius was no longer around and Narcissa seemed to be in her own world
because of that. While
flashbacking on his practices, Malfoy closed his silver eyes and drifted off to
sleep, surrendering to his dream. The
blond found himself standing in a very spaced dark place, whilst an even darker
ball was surrounding him, shading him from the outside. Malfoy went to brace
himself, protecting his body from the coldness before sighing. This dream had
been haunting him even before he had found out about his power and the blonde
did not like it at all. Malfoy
tried to walk out of the ball of darkness, but he couldn’t. He was desperate.
It was a few moments before the blonde could see a speck of light coming from
opposite direction. He screamed mentally before trying to run to the light, but
couldn’t. The ball was preventing him. Find
warmth in your Light and leave the utter darkness… Here
came the voice. Malfoy wanted to scowl at it. Never would he join the Light. As
much as he did not like Lucius, the man was his own Father and he had to save
him out of Azkaban. Before
you freeze in shattered ice caps… Oh,
how Malfoy wanted to curse that voice and made it shut up. It had been haunting
him everywhere, unconscious or not, and whenever the blonde tried to sneer or
make crude remark at Potter the voice would assault his mind. Speaking
about Potter… Malfoy
squinted his eyes again as the light came closer. It stopped, but was close
enough for the blonde to see the outline of the glowing figure. Unruly
raven hair. Emerald eyes. Tanned skin glowing with gold. It
couldn’t be. The
figure was definitely Harry James Potter, his mortal archenemy for 5 years. Malfoy
wanted to laugh pathetically, he wanted to turn his face to the darkness and try
to seek comfort from it; he would rather die than finding himself happy with
Harry’s presence. But the blonde couldn’t. He couldn’t turn around and
glance other way. His
attention was glued to the green-eyed boy. Or
was he? ‘Potter…’ The
light figure jerked before trying to walk even closer to his black ward.
Apparently, the boy couldn’t; there seemed to be an invisible wall between
them. ‘Malfoy?’ Just
remember that comfort can come from even the strangest arms ever… With
that sentence, the dream faded with a huge crumble from the ground below and the
16 years old Slytherin blonde jerked up from his bed, panting. He realized
someone else’s presence beside him and blinked, rubbing his eyes before
squinting at the person. “You
all right there, Draco?” spoke a firm and rather cold voice with a strange
Asian accent in it. Malfoy found himself facing right into Yura’s brown pools. “It’s
you,” Malfoy let out a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding, “yes, I
am fine,” he spoke, wiping a cold sweat from running down his forehead. “Oh?”
Yura asked, raising her eyebrow, “just so for your information, Draco, you
missed Arithmancy and the whole dinner.” Malfoy
went to clutch his head. “Did I?” he said, not really asking anyone in
particular. He was still gaining his composure back when suddenly his mind
became clear and he remembered of something. The
girl in front of him was not present during the Defense Against the Dark Art
lesson. “Yura,”
Malfoy looked up, “where were you during DADA?” The
Asian shrugged. “Why, I got a little headache.” Her voice seemed so similar
to the young Malfoy… In
all sudden, a gush of idea entered Malfoy’s brain. The blonde stood up, eyes
staring widely at Yura. “Why do I hang around such a mudblood like you so
much?” Yura
seemed a little bit offended. “Needless to say, Crabbe and Goyle do not reach
your intelligence level and you do not find Parkinson’s company any appealing
to you. I am just to make her stay away from you, Draco.” “I
can always resolve to Blaise or Theodore,” Malfoy argued back indignantly,
“they’re available too! Why do I hang around you, an Asian mudblood
nonetheless?” The
brown-eyed girl shrugged. “That, Draco, is a thing only you know about,” she
spat. “Ah,
ha!” Malfoy seemed even more and more desperate to prove a point. Things had
been going around very weirdly for him since he went back to Hogwarts. “Well,
I want to hang around you because I feel it!” Yura frowned. “Feel what?”
she scowled. Malfoy
raised his eyebrow and argued back, “Why, your power! I saw it. I’ve seen it
the first day I met you! You’re strong. No matter how you tried to hide it, it
still radiates off you body and attracts me-.” “Nonsense!”
Yura huffed. “Me? Power? Draco, are you in your right mind?” “Potter…”
mumbled Malfoy suddenly; “I keep on hearing voices in my dreams – in my
life! I lose my will to sneer at Potter and-.” Yura
was smirking at this. “Oh, well, admit it, Draco, you want Harry.” “What?”
the cold mask was slipping from whatever left on Malfoy’s face, leaving him
exposed for anyone to read his feelings. “Me? Wanting Bloody Fucking Saint
Potter?? No way!” the blonde’s face was filled of absurdity. The
girl paced around a bit before shaking her head. “Draco, you don’t like
Harry because he turned you down. You’re used to get whatever you want. You
torture the hell out of his life in hope for him to go to you when he gives
up,” she said in a matter-of-fact’s tone. “I
don’t!!” Malfoy said hastily. Silently, in his mind he knew that Yura was
making a point, but he would never, never ever admitted it. Never. And that was
a long time ago. By now he knew that strategy wouldn’t work. He hated Harry
now. Definitely. “Back
to the issue about your power,” the Ice Prince hissed dangerously. Yura
furrowed both of her eyebrows in desperation. “What!?” she said in a
frustrated tone. “Your
voice!” Malfoy said, snapping his fingers in realization of the somehow faint
similarity or her voice and the voice in his head, raised his own voice, “it
is the voice that always came in my dreams, into my head!! You are the one
behind all these things, are you not??” Yura
was looking at Malfoy with a very shocked look. “Draco, I do not understand
what you are talking about,” she said coldly before taking a few steps to the
door. Malfoy shouted for her. “You do! You’re the one who set it! I could
feel your power!” By
that time, the Asian was already opening the door, with the blonde walking up
from behind her. Yura turned around and gave Malfoy a cold look. “You’re not
in your right mind, Draco, sleep will do you good.” The male wanted to argue.
“Look-!” “Goodnight,”
Yura said in a tone that left no room for argument, giving out a cold smile
before slamming the door right in front of Malfoy’s face. The blonde could
only groan before flopping back down to his bed. Outside,
the female furrowed her eyebrows even more. She fell silent for a while, biting
her lips before deciding over something and walked quickly to one particular
corridor. “Shit.” ~*~ Harry
spent the rest of his day walking in trance. His thought kept coming back to the
memory of the blonde conjuring the dark energy ball and the raven-haired boy was
sort of reminded of his own power. The boy had strangely fell asleep during his
Charm lesson and dreamt about that very same darkness and Malfoy again before
waking up with a thud and Professor Flitwick kept on giving him weird look
afterwards. Harry hadn’t done any practice since he reached Hogwarts; let
alone the practices – he hadn’t even done his Potions essay. The
word ‘Potion’ reminded Harry one thing. He stopped walking and looked at his
watch. It was a little before 6. Harry groaned. This
day was Friday, and every Friday night after 6pm, the boy was supposed to go to
Snape’s office to practice Occlumency. ‘Great’
Harry thought as he stood up from the comfortable sofa near the fireplace at
Gryffindor and walked to the portrait hole to get a quick dinner before going to
Snape. Ron and Dong Eun shot him a questioning look. “Where’re you going,
Harry?” asked Dong Eun behind a thick History of Magic book and something like
an English – Chinese dictionary. Harry
shrugged. “Remedial Potion,” he replied, giving Ron a look. The red-haired
boy looked sternly at him before Dong Eun raised his eyebrow and waved his hand.
“Do you want us to wait for you?” Ron asked. “No,”
Harry answered, “I wont be back before midnight. I’m bad at Potions, really,
and it will take ages for me to understand what Snape’s talking about,” he
lied to Dong Eun as he stepped out of the common room after saying byes. Harry
sighed loudly before he began his run to the Great Hall. ~*~ A
few minutes after that, Harry ended up standing alone in a middle of a cold
dungeon corridor in front of a huge door that led him to the greasy haired
Professor’s office. The boy sighed before he raised his hand and knocked the
door silently. “Come
in,” The
Boy Who Lived opened the door hesitatingly and entered the room. Harry looked
around. Things hadn’t changed at all. The cupboard of ingredients was still
there, and the desk was still located by the corner. Snape was standing next to
it, lifting his memory from his head and put it in the Pensieve with the tip of
his wand before turning to face him with a very nasty smile. Harry gulped,
suddenly wanting to just leap off this room and leave. Snape
strode in front of Harry and threw the boy a nasty smile again. “Well, Potter,
ready?” Harry
made sure to empty his mind before staring up at the professor, took his wand
out and nodded. A
smirk graced Snape’s face as his dark eyes stared coldly into Harry’s head.
“Legilimens” Harry
could feel it. Rushes of his past memories of whish he’d rather not remember
anymore came. Hundreds of Dementors standing around him and Hermione…A hard,
evil and awry laugh while a blinding green light stroked in the darkness…The
pain from the arm he had stinging from the craved sentence from Umbridge’s
detention…Sirius falling over the veil… Darkness
around him with a faint but warm looking Malfoy’s figure… Harry’s
eyes opened wide. No. He did not want to expose his dream, especially to Snape.
The boy did not want that. A word was once again forming in his head, wanting to
be said out badly. Menotte… All
in a sudden, a huge white if not translucent wall appeared in front of Harry,
pushing the Potions Master to the wall, protecting Harry from the mind probing.
The boy fell down to his knees a moment before the wall disappeared. By that
time, the Gryffindor was panting, sweat was covering his whole body and he felt
like he’d just undergone a 100-miles marathon. In
the other hand, while was pushed onto the dungeon wall, Snape eyes the white
wall in front of the boy with wide eyes before it withered away. The Professor
stood up and looked down at the raven-haired boy with a slight bewilderment. A
few moments passed before Harry managed to stand back up onto his feet, leaning
to the chair in front of him, looking at Snape with a slightly worried look on
his boyish face. It
was silence. Snape did not say anything about it, nor continuing the supposedly
to be Occlumency lesson. Harry was beginning to panic when the man loosened his
grip on the wand and looked away with a pair of still wide eyes, reminding him
the look of when the Potions Master had first seen him speaking Parseltongue.
“So much for today, Potter. Keep on practicing. It was good you managed to
repel me. Next Friday, same place, same time,” he said before waving his hand
off, signing for the Gryffindor to go out from his office. Harry
had to blink twice at the statement. First of all, this must be the shortest
Occlumency lesson – without any intrusions from outside – ever. And did
Snape just compliment on him just now?? The
boy shook his head before pocketing his wand and left the room with shaky feet
– he had to lean on the wall to prevent him from falling – before the man
changed his mind and decided to drain more energy of his already battered body.
Harry shrugged. He would need the energy for the Quidditch tryout tomorrow. The
thought of Quidditch lifted his mind up as he limped up to Gryffindor common
room. ~*~ Harry
woke up from the very same dream about darkness and Malfoy he got everyday and
sighed. He rubbed his eyes and put on his glasses before standing up and got out
of his bed, shaking his head at the sounds of snoring that came from both
Ron’s and Neville’s beds. The boy went to take a quick shower and dressed in
simple muggle clothing before going to look out from the window. The
weather this day was great. The sky was clear. There was only little wind and no
sign of rain, a perfect condition for Quidditch. Harry smiled at the thought.
There would be a Quidditch tryout for Gryffindor team that noon and Harry was
really looking forward to it. Katie
had told him yesterday to gather after breakfast. She was less bossy than
Angelina, but still, she could be scary when she wanted to be. The girl made it
clear that she wanted every team member to be there, and it was best just to
just obey her. Harry had returned to his position as a Seeker in the team while
Ginny shifted off to being a Chaser. They would be having the tryout for
beaters, since last year Fred and George’s replacements weren’t too great,
and a place for one more Chaser. After
ten minutes staring into the Quidditch Pitch, Harry could hear someone woke up
from the bed and turned around. Dong Eun, yawning and still rubbing his eyes,
smiled at Harry and asked quietly, “what are you doing, Harry?” Harry
smiled back. “Perfect weather,” he beamed softly, “for perfect
Quidditch.” Dong
Eun’s face fell a bit before he nodded at the raven-haired boy, a wide smile
gracing his face. “I see. Well, I have to go to shower now; I stink.” With
that, he turned away to the bathroom. It
was an hour before the others started to wake up. Harry could only drag Ron
quickly into shower and dressing before they went to breakfast together with
Dong Eun. To say that Harry was excited was an understatement. The boy hadn’t
been flying for quite a while, and the last flight he did on Thestrals was not a
good thing to try to remember. Hermione
had been very distant nowadays; she refused to go anywhere but library and spent
all her free time in it. Ron was distressed from being away from his girlfriend
for too a long a time, and Dong Eun kept on telling Harry that what the brunet
was doing was not going to work. Yura was a real genius. Straight
after breakfast, Harry and Ron changed into their Quidditch robes, which were
shining crimson and gold under the sky, and could be seen mounting off their
brooms together with Ginny flying slightly behind. Harry sighed contentedly as
he felt the cold air gushing against his body. The feeling was always so calming
for him. Katie
flew to the Seeker and the Keeper of Gryffindor and flashed them a smile.
“Harry, Ron, I want you all to take your positions near the goal posts. I’ll
set the people who apply for Chasers and Harry, you’ll try to snatch the
Quaffle, and Ron, guard the goalposts. Ginny and I will look at the applicants
for Beaters. Understand?” Both
boys nodded and took their places near the goalposts. Soon enough, one by one,
the applicants for Chasers came and try to pass Harry and Ron to make a goal.
Some of them were quite good. They managed to make a goal on their second or
third attempt (Each one were given three attempts each), but some were hopeless.
One could not even get pass Harry on their third attempt, and many were even
worse. “They
aren’t looking too good, aren’t they?” Katie said as Harry and Ron flew
down, “it seemed hopeless. I’ve got some better beaters there, but if we
cant solve the problem about the Chasers…” “Maybe
we’re just too good,” joked Ron. Katie only snorted before quickly said,
“No offense, Ron, you might be good, but Harry here is no Chaser by born and
some, no, many couldn’t even pass him.” The
three of them sighed in unison and landed near the bench of the spectators. They
smiled at their classmates and walked around for a while before finding Dong Eun
seated at almost the very end. The Asian smiled at them and waved. “You two
can fly very well!” he beamed. Harry
smiled and Ron was going to swell in pride before they heard a small snort from
beside Dong Eun. “It’s not something to say when you’re at least not
further away than a level below them,” an Asian accented female voice shot
through the air. “Yura!!”
Dong Eun snapped, seeming annoyed. A
small figured girl with warm brown eyes and unruly shoulder-length raven hair
scowled before she turned her attention at Ron and Harry and smiled at them.
“Hello, Harry and Weasley!” Harry
and Ron greeted back (Ron still refusing to be called by his first name and
resolved on calling her ‘Kitagawa’). The four went to chat about Quidditch
for a while, with the green-eyed boy eyeing the girl quietly. When they were
gathering like this, the fact that Yura was a Slytherin and Harry, Ron and Dong
Eun were Gryffindors seemed to be forgotten, like the inter-house rivalry never
existed. Harry and Ron seemed a bit startled that even with that stern face,
Yura could play poke on Dong Eun at some occasional times while the boy pouted
heavily at this. “So,
Harry,” Yura said, snapping the Boy Who Lived off his mind, “have you
decided on who you’re going to pick? This tryout, I mean,” she trailed.
Harry shrugged. “Katie said that she’d made her pick on the beaters…but
for chasers…not yet,” he remarked. The
reply made Yura sigh before elbowing Dong Eun on the ribs. “You should let
Dong Eun try, then. He’s a natural, I can tell you,” she said in a matter of
fact tone. Dong Eun exhaled heavily. “How many times should I tell you not to
mention it? I don’t even have a broom.” Yura
looked at Harry and Ron intently. “Can’t you lend him a broom or
something?” Ron
nodded. “The school has lots of broomsticks, if not I can lend him my old
Comet Two Sixty for a while. It’s upstairs in my room.” Yura
nodded as a small smile graced her face. “Mind if I use it?” “Of
course not,” Ron replied as Yura took out her wand and muttered, “Accio
Ronald Weasley’s Comet Two Sixty”. The broom, old, battered but still
fine looking, came flying to them a few while after. The Asian girl took it and
shoved it to the other Asian student. “Go and try.” Dong
Eun was about to protest when Yura raised her eyebrow sternly and gave him a
look that left him no room for argument. Sighing, the Asian boy took the Comet
before smiling at Harry and Ron. “Care to give me a hand and audit me?” Harry
and Ron nodded straight away before handing Dong Eun the red Quaffle ball and
flew to their positions near the goalposts. The three looked at each other
before Harry cleared his throat and asked the Asian boy. “Ready?” The
brown-eyed boy nodded. “Ready when you are,” he replied. With
that sentence, Dong Eun made a flip in the air before flying slightly away from
the goalpost. Harry, a little bit amazed, went to fly to his direction and tried
to snatch the quaffle in the other boy’s arm. Missed. Harry
flipped and tried snatching again. The speed of Firebolt made it easier to cope,
and he really going to get the quaffle when Dong Eun threw it hard above them
and flashed upwards to get it again. He then raced as fast as possible with the
Comet and flew around the three goalposts for a while, confusing Ron before
quickly shooting the red ball into the left ring when Ron was too concentrated
on the other two in a very swift moment. Harry
and Ron gaped. Katie, who had been eyeing the whole thing since Dong Eun managed
to getaway from Harry, smiled very widely. Dong Eun was the first person to ever
make a goal in his first attempt. Dong
Eun sighed, flew downwards towards a land and was getting off from the old broom
when Katie, Harry, Ron and Ginny surrounded him. The Asian could only smile
thinly. “I suck, right?” “No!”
shouted all the other four Gryffindors in unison, even though they did not mean
it to be. “It was awesome how you can do it with an old Comet!” Ron beamed.
Harry nodded. “Your reflexes are excellent!” Katie was smiling broader than
ever. “All right, I’ve made up my mind!” she grinned at Dong Eun,
“Welcome to Gryffindor Quidditch Team!” Dong
Eun looked at the other Gryffindors with absurdity on his face. “You have to
be joking!” Before
any of the lions could respond at that, they could hear a scowl from behind Dong
Eun. “Apparently, they do not look like they’re kidding to me; they look
like they’ve just found the forbidden fruit,” she chuckled lightly as Katie,
Ron and Ginny made a confused face. Harry, never having to read the Bible
sometime in his life, furrowed his eyebrow and thought that ‘forbidden
fruit’ must have been an Asian idiom or something. Yura waved her hand off
their confused faces and stretched out her hand to Dong Eun.
“Congratulations!” The
boy eyed the hand and the girl a few times before taking the hand and finally
smiled. “Thanks.” The
others smiled and each of them was giving congrats to their new Chaser before
someone coughed from behind them. Harry turned around only too see an all too
familiar bluish silver-eyed boy with silver blonde hair in green Slytherin
Quidditch robe. Draco
Malfoy sneered at the whole team smugly before raising one elegant eyebrow at
Katie. “I pity the Gryffindor team for having a Captain that cannot read a
couple of numbers, because I believe I made sure that the Quidditch pitch is
available for Slytherin Quidditch tryout from 1 – 4pm.” Harry
quickly glanced at his watch. It was 1pm sharp indeed. Katie
bit her lips before glaring at the blonde and went passed him and the other
Slytherin Quidditch team members behind the Ice Prince, including Goyle and
Crabbe who had been made Beaters. Apparently, Draco had been made into Captain
this year. Harry and Ron shrugged as they walked past Malfoy without getting any
crude remark; instead, it was Dong Eun a nasty look as he walked past with an
old Comet Two Sixty on his hand. “My, my, now I pity the team even more for
having a new beggar into their teams,” the blonde said, and the whole team
laughed. Dong Eun could only furrow his eyebrows before leaving the Pitch. Harry
shrugged at the blonde’s meanness before turning to the Asian girl. “We’re
going to have some tea. You going too, Yura?” The
girl only shook her head and gave Harry another trademark smile. “I’m going
to watch the Slytherin tryout. I have something to ask Draco too, anyway,” she
replied, making Harry realized that he had just forgotten that she was a
Slytherin. Harry nodded before saying goodbye and left with Ron. No
one saw Malfoy threw a look at Harry before the Gryffindor left. ~*~*~*~*~ End
