Seven Types of Praise
As Christians we have many reasons to celebrate such as the birth and resurrection of Jesus or our soon and coming Bridegroom. We can dance to celebrate a personal, family, or corporate victory.
Rejoice before the Lord with your family household. Deuteronomy 16:10
The movements in this dance express joy, exaltation, honor, and reverence. These movements could be twirling, jumping, and skipping. The use of tambourines flowers, streamers, and palm branches may be used to inspire joy in the congregation. This dance can be preformed as a solo, in a group, in a circle, spontaneous or choreographed and the costumes are usually colorful.
Ceremonial dancesare usually preplanned and well rehearsed to greatly compliment the occasion. Various events are ordination, weddings, funerals, or baby dedications. Music and choreography should enhance the theme or the feeling to be portrayed and should always point to our heavenly Father and bring him honor and glory. Deuteronomy 16 talks about the ceremony of the harvest, which included dancers. Today there are many occasions to minister a ceremonial dance such as; holidays like Christmas and Easter. In the days of the Old Testaments many government ceremonies included dancers.
The first thing we must understand about praise is that it is not based on how we feel: but rather based on our covenant with God. God ordained us to praise Him and through scripture we find the Word of the Lord Instructing us to praise Him.
Praise ye the Lord, Praise the Lord, oh my soul while I live I will praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. Psalms 146:1,2
"Thou shall meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, a tabret, a pipe, and a harp before them; and they shall prophecy." 1 Samuel 10:5,6
In the prophetic dance the Spirit of God guides us as He inspires us to movements that are often spotaneous, and express the mind of God. Just as in 1 Samuel 29:5 the women of the towns danced and sang that David had killed 10,000 when he at that point had only killed one giant, they were looking into the future to see the greatness of their soon to be King.
The dance of travail willgive birth to the things God wants to establish in the earth to fulfill His purpose. One can travail through prayer, speaking the Word, and by praying in the Spirit. Nothing is impossible to God, and that's what is proclaimed in this dance. We thank him for the answers to our prayers before the answer is visible. The travail dance is a Victory dance done by faith as a testimony before the manifestation is evident. In Hebrew the word "chul-chul" means to whirl in a circular motion, to twist, and to dance. It also means to travail, to bring forth children, to writhe in pain. The movements of the dance of travail can vary according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. As in Psalm 30:11 the Psalmist says that through travail the sackcloth was replaced with gladness, and so it is with us as we cry out to our Father.
Worship is a privilege. We can not worship on our own. rather we need the Holy Spirit to inspire and lead us into worship. Worship is the connection of our spirit to God's Spirit, going beyond the soulish realm. It is a time that God will speak to us. Worship movements are often inspired by the Holy Spirit. These are usually soft, flowing, and graceful ballet expressions. This is a dance of love and adoration for our King, just as the angels dance around the throne of Heaven in Rev.7:11.
Warfare dance can be done by faith to bring deliverance to a city, church, family, or any situations as led by the Holy Spirit. It may be choreographed or spontaneous. Most of the time the movements are sharp and angular such as kicking, jumping, punching, lunging, falling, pushing, leaping, stamping, and marching. Often times it is an aggressive dance that utilizes carrying flags and banners while praying aloud. Just as Joshua did warfare dance around Jerico and put the devil to flight, so we can use the warfare dance to bring deliverance, healing, and finanical break through. Psalms 18:33-34
to bless, praise kneel and salute Judges 5:2
to shine, rave, boast, celebrate, and be clamorously foolish 1Chron. 5:2
to glory, shout, command, and triumph Luke 19:37,39
war praise, high praise, God responding to our faith Ps 22:3
to offer sacrifice of praise, especially in a choir of worshipers and dancers: a procession Ps 50:23
to lift hands and hearts publicly 2Chron 20:19-21
to sing praise and play instruments Ps 57:7
