The piano is my #1 instrument. It is often referred to as either my best friend, or my boy friend. Either way, it is the one thing I couldn't live without.
I started taking piano lessons almost eight years ago. Before the lessons, I would figure out the melody to songs by ear on the piano, even though I knew nothing about it. haha. So my mom decided to have someone teach me how to play piano. Thats where the love began ;-)

Ever since I was about three, I have loved the flute. I actually wanted to play the flute before I played the piano. My mom wanted me to learn the piano first, and with traveling an all it made it rather difficult to find a flute teacher. Also, we found it difficult to be able to buy one. A year ago my youth pastor's wife gave me her daughters flute, who only played it for a year. It is a nickle Gemeinhardt flute. A very lovely sounding brand! I tried teaching myself for a while, and it went pretty well, I got the basis down. Finally in September I started flute lessons. I feel they are going pretty good! I really enjoy learning the flute. My teacher says you can definetly tell I have a passion for it, because of how hard I'm working at it. I just told her "When you've wanted to play something for 12 years, the passion builds up!"

I have been able to find a way to combine all these. I am a piano teacher, and I also teach music theory to a few children. I really enjoy passing on the love I have for music, to other children who love it too. I want them to find as much joy in it as I do.
For piano lessons I use Alfreds All-In-One Course. It is an OK series, I'd rather use something else, but I wanted something that would have the rhythm and theory practices in it, without having to buy a bunch of books. I STONGLY suggest using Alfreds Premier Piano Course if you are going into music. I was sent the first level of it for free, and it is a very good series!
For my theory lessons I combine a lot of stuff. For my basis of my lessons I create my own, but for coloring pages, I use Land Of Music it is a very good program if you would be doing a big class. It is rather expensive though, that is why I only use there coloring pages. For any ideas, or work pages that I don't create on my own, I use Explorations in Music and Master Theory by KJOS, and I also use some things from the Premier Piano Course Theory book that was sent to me by Alfred.
