Hubert and Ora Kuhlmann

Hubert Kuhlmann born Sept. 2, 1904 -- died February 16, 1994 at the age of 89. He attended school at the stone school known as "pigtail". Because the need to help out on the farm, like most boys, attended school only during the winter month, and quit attending after completing the 6th grade. As a young man, he found employment working for local farmers.

Ora Stutheit, born Aug. 6, 1904, died October 25, 1999, farmers daughter of Emil and Christine (Buethe) Stutheit who lived a couple miles away, became the "apple of his eye", and the two were married on August 7, 1927. The couple pursued the farming profession, renting and living on two different farms. The depression of the "30's" financially ruined them, and in 1937 Hubert decided to become a Salesman for the J.R.Watkins Co The family moved to an acreage 7 miles north of Humboldt, Nebr. that they rented for $30.00 a year, pursuing the occupation as a door-to-door Watkins Dealer until 1960. .

Woodworking had always been one of Hubert's main interest, and for many years had a shop in which all kinds of furniture and wooden articles were made. Since the last of their 4 children had graduated from Bratton Union High School, Hubert and Ora decided to leave their rural home and move to Auburn, Nebr. where Hubert joined his oldest son, Willard in carpentry -- mainly manning the shop and building cabinets. A few years later they decided to start a trailer court as a retirement occupation. They lived on the court until entering the nursing home. They were life long members at St. James Lutheran Church. They had 4 children.
