Though the Jedi protected the Republic through tactful
diplomacy and non-agressive solutions to problems,
there were times when even the most determined Jedi
negotiator needed to take the fight to the enemy. The
Jedi starfighter was designed to do just that.

The triangular starfighter was created for the Jedi
Order by Kuat Systems Engineering and issued to all
the Jedi Knights stationed at the Jedi Temple. The cock-
pit near the aft of the ship could hold only one Jedi pilot,
so an astromech droid was used for extra navigation. It
was commonly an R4-P series, as Jedi pilots did not
need the extra targeting systems of an R3-D astro-
droid. There was little room in the Jedi starfighter, so the R4-P astromech was truncated and welded into early models of the starfighter.

Spare parts were held in a space behind the cockpit that was just large enough to fit one human being, though the design was not able to incorporate a hyperdrive. Thus the Jedi had to use a seperate hyperdrive booster ring, kept in orbit above Coruscant. Most of the Jedi starfighters were kept in the Jedi Temple hangar, either for personal or general use by the Jedi. Some Delta-7's were transported to various Jedi facilities across the galaxy, and more Republic military bases during the Clone Wars. Dual laser cannons were used to battle the starfighters of the Confederacy during the Wars, though it was also known for Jedi to use their Force powers in battle.
