| The crown jewel of Naboo civilization was the glorious City of Theed, built at the edge of a great plateau where the river Solleu wound its way towards a spectacular waterfall. Home of Naboo's monarchy and government, Theed had every right to be called the capital of Naboo. Surrounded by water, the City of Theed was founded 800 years before the Battle of Naboo, and quickly became the most prominent settlement on the planet. The majestic Royal Palace was constructed there, at the edge of the plateau Theed rested upon. Over time, the palace gained extra features, as each ruler had a new tower or turret built for them. King Veruna had a vast library created during his 13-year reign, while older rulers had extra towers built, or modified existing structures for public acclaim. Though the palace was the largest building in Theed, there were many other important locales, including the city's University, the great Triumphal Arch in front of the palace, and the Theed hangar, located across the river from it. The Solleu itself forked through Theed, culminating in numerous waterfalls that stretched across the cliff face behind the palace - with the largest being the Virdugo Plunge, to the side of the royal hangars. Due to Naboo's porus core, tunnels connected the Solleu to the planet's core and through to the other side. Tunnels beneath Theed also served as secret passageways to much of the city. These passageways were used during the Trade Federation invasion of Naboo. Viceroy Nute Gunray mobilized his forces against Theed, and captured it with relative ease. However, Queen Amidala managed to evade her captors, and soon returned with a plan to retake Theed. Using the underground tunnels, she managed to get near the palace, where she held Gunray hostage in the throne room. After her victory, a grand parade was held in Theed's large plaza. However, some time later this plaza was remade into a vast circular courtyard, as Trade Federation tanks had left parts of the old courtyard blasted and wrecked. At this time, the Gungans had also merged into the Naboo culture after years of seperation; many could be seen conversing among the Naboo, living together in peace. |
